On October 30, 2024 William J. (Bill) Madden, age 94 passed away at the VA community Living Center in Miles City, MT.
Bill was born on January 12, 1930 in Hot Springs, SD to Maurice and Mabel Crinklaw Madden. Bill was one of nine children born to Maurice and Mabel.
Bill attended school in Terry, MT, graduating with the class of 1949. While attending school, Bill participated in football, basketball, and baseball. Bill spent his formative years working on his aunt Janet and uncle Bob Ormesher ranch during the summers near Ridge, MT. He said it is where he learned to work hard and developed a love of ranching.
Bill was drafted into the US Army in 1951 and served Korea. Bill was a proud Veteran and considered it one of his greatest accomplishments. Bill was honorably discharged in 1953. Bill married Joanne Carlson, they later divorced. They had three daughters, Kay, Kristie, and Paula.
Bill enjoyed swimming, golfing, hunting, fly fishing, and photography throughout his life. Reminiscing about family and friends from his life brought Bill a great deal of joy. Bill liked to tell of his short-lived experiences of piloting his own plane, and bareback riding among other things. Bill had an infectious smile and a quick sense of humor. His one liners will be remembered for a long time.
Bill is survived by his daughters, Kay (Tom) Pisk of Terry, MT, Kristie (Kurt) Ratz of MT/AZ, Paula Madden; four grandchildren, Sarah (David) Pisk Reuss of Denver, CO, Taylor Pisk of Bozeman, MT, Trevor (Taylor G) Pisk of Bozeman, MT, Meliena Ratz of Chandler, AZ; two great grandchildren, Alice and Henry Reuss of Denver, CO; brother Francis (Bonnie) Madden of Spearfish, SD and Arizona, and Sandra Madden of Albuquerque, New Mexico, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Maurice (Monica) Madden, Byron Madden; sisters, Janet (Bud) Hickey, Wanda (Roger) Dana, Norma (John) Addison, and Cecelia (Jack) Sweeny.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Trotsky and the entire staff at the VA Community Care Living Century for the incredible care and compassion they showed Dad. We will never forget what they did to make Dad comfortable.

To the Madden girls, I knew your father many, many years ago. He came into the place I was working at almost every day. He talked about you girls quite often. He truly loved you all…Bill had a mustache back then and was very proud of it. He was a good friend. Always be there for each other and always remember the good times.
