William “Bill” Laurence Pitt, a beloved son, brother, and friend, passed away suddenly on April 16, 2025, at the age of 50 in Miles City, Montana. Born in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, on August 21, 1974, William was the son of Laurence Lee Pitt and Susan Marie (Welsh) Nolan. He was a cherished member of his family, leaving behind memories that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew him.
William’s early life was marked by a desire to carry on the proud legacy of military service in his family. After graduating from high school in Lynch, Nebraska, he joined the Army. However, due to health concerns related to asthma, he was medically discharged during basic training. This early setback did not deter him from seeking new experiences throughout his life.
From a young age, William demonstrated an adventurous spirit, taking on various jobs that reflected his vibrant personality. He worked in the Job Corp and as a Gaming Machine Technician in Reno, Nevada. His journey brought him to Blue Rock in Miles City, Montana, where we believe he earned his CDL, and later to Montana State University in Bozeman, where he was involved in janitorial work. In 2016, he returned to Miles City and found joy working for 4B’s Restaurant, where he served as a cook, dishwasher, and busser for nearly a decade. His fondness for this job was evident in the way he spoke of the people he worked with.
William was a proud member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, often engaging in thoughtful discussions about faith and spirituality with his father. He was known for his friendly demeanor and ability to engage anyone in conversation, easily making friends wherever he went. His infectious smile could light up any room, and he had a remarkable talent for giving the warmest hugs that made everyone feel welcome.
In addition to his engaging personality, William was a passionate fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and had an extensive collection of DVDs, reflecting his love for movies. Music was another significant part of his life, and he often indulged his fondness for Pink Floyd, much to the amusement (and occasional frustration) of his little sister. Cooking brought him joy, particularly when it came to his beloved macaroni and cheese.
William’s kind heart was evident in his willingness to open his door to anyone in need, even when he had little to give. He will be remembered not only for his generosity but also for his role as a loving brother. He is survived by his father, Laurence Pitt, and his wife Sidney of Nauvoo, Illinois; sisters Shirl Morris and her husband Darrell of Miles City, Montana; Teesha Burt and her husband Mike of Lander, Wyoming; and Aisling Lauwers and her husband Kevin of Billings, Montana. He leaves behind numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, many cousins, and friends, all of whom will miss him dearly.
William was preceded in death by his mother, Susan Nolan; his aunt, Cayse Dick; uncles Gary Pitt (and wife Deette) and Gary Welsh; cousin David Pitt, nephew Darrell Morris Jr.; as well as his grandparents and great-grandparents. His absence will leave a void that can never be filled.
A Celebration of Life is being planned in his honor, though the timing remains uncertain due to various factors. Loved ones are encouraged to commemorate William’s life in their own meaningful ways. In the midst of sorrow, we remember a man who brought joy to our lives and touched our hearts with his kindness, laughter, and love.
William Laurence Pitt will be greatly missed, but his spirit will forever live on in the memories of all who knew and loved him.
