Wm. Douglas Wallin, age 87, of Seattle, Washington, passed away peacefully at Mirabella on Sunday, July 25, 2010, after a period of failing health.

Doug was born in Rosebud, Montana, on August 10, 1922, to Wilhelm and Margaret Wallin. Doug's formative years were spent in Rosebud and working summers on his grandparents' ranch located on the Rosebud Creek near Lame Deer, Montana. In 1943, Doug joined the Army, serving in the 104th Infantry Division (Timberwolves) in Europe until the end of WW II in 1945. Doug married his high school sweetheart, Lillian Quigley, in July, 1945. He attended the University of Montana and graduated in 1947 and was employed by Berl Stallard, accountant, in Miles City for a year following his graduation. Doug and Lillian then moved to Billings, Montana, where he and his business partner, Leonard Gaines, operated an insurance agency. In 1955, Doug and Lillian welcomed a son, Clark, and in 1967 they moved to Seattle, WA, after selling the insurance agency in Billings. The highlight of Doug's career was when he joined the John F. Sullivan Company, a reinsurance brokerage firm, in the early 1970's. During retirement, Doug enjoyed gardening and following athletics, especially the Husky football team. He enjoyed hosting dinner parties and was an excellent cook. He was very meticulous and particular in his work and his hobbies. Doug was a very kind and generous husband, father and friend who touched many lives. He will be missed by all who have had the pleasure of knowing him.

Doug is survived by his son, Clark, and daughter-in-law, Lisa, his sister, Ellen Smith, and her husband, Ted, of Olive, Montana, as well as numerous relatives.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian, in 1996, his father, his mother, and his brother John and wife Wilma and a baby sister.

A memorial service was held at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Seattle on August 7, 2010, at 11:30a.m. A Celebration of Life Luncheon will be held on Saturday, September 11, 2010 from 11:30 to 1:00 p.m. at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home in Forsyth, MT. Graveside Service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Lee Cemetery, south of Colstrip, MT. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the charity of your choice.
