Alice Elizabeth Kiel Grasby, age 88, of Miles City passed away on Friday, June 20, 2014 at the Holy Rosary Hospital with her loving family by her side.
Alice was born at Beebe, Montana on July 6, 1925 to Joe F. and Edna Kiel, the fifth of thirteen children. She grew up on a homestead at Powderville and worked for Hank Dykes as a cook for a haying crew. She also spent a great deal of time babysitting the younger kids. One night at a community dance, her sister Dorothy set her up with a good looking country boy from North Dakota; and history was written. She married Oscar Grasby, the love of her life and her hardworking partner on January 10, 1948 in Miles City, Montana. Not long after, they welcomed three children, Luella, Darlene and Melvin “OJ” Grasby. The Grasby family ranched on Dry Creek near Powderville until 1973, when they sold the ranch and moved to Miles City.
Some of Alice’s greatest joys began when her grandchildren arrived. Some of her greatest days were spent in the stands, rain or shine, watching her grandchildren’s sports and activities. Alice could often be found sitting at the kitchen table with a diet coke gazing out at her peonies that Oscar loved so much.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband Oscar, her parents, eleven siblings, an infant daughter LeeAndra, one son-in-law, Jim Sanderson and one grandson Jason. Alice is survived by her younger sister Virginia “Ginny” Frize, her three children, Luella Grasby, Darlene Sanderson and Melvin “OJ” Grasby, seven grandchildren: Jennifer (Jaret) Meidinger, Jarrod Grasby, Jorden Grasby, Jim (Tami) Sanderson, Jess (LaDonna) Sanderson, Jenna (Brandon) Janshen and Jase Sanderson, her seven great grandchildren: McKinley, Julia, Brayden, Jasmyn, Karissa, Myra and Harper, and her nieces and nephews.

My sincere condolences to the family of Alice Elizabeth Kiel Grasby. At this time of sorrow, we are comforted by the sure hope that Bible gives for those have died. Jesus words at John 5:28, 29 tell us “do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out” with the hope of everlasting life in paradise conditions. Cherish all the happy memories of Mrs. Grasby and I hope you are comforted by Bible promises (John 17:3).

Avis and Rick Rost and family says
So hard to believe that Heaven has added another beautiful Angel. Our family has been truly blessed to have known Alice. She was a Mom, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, and all around a great friend to a lot of people. The Grasby family will always be in our prayers, and we will always remember the great times we had during baseball. Alice even cut out a photo from the Star and sent it to us of Megan and her friend when they were “cheering” for the “Eagles” baseball team. God Blessed your family, and I pray that you will always remember the great memories you had with this wonderful lady. I believe we will all meet again some day in Heaven. May the thought that Alice is with God bring you comfort, and may you always know we are here if you ever need anything. Love, Rick, Avis, Isaac, Rachel, and Megan Rost.

Ken & Penny Monier says
Dear O.J. and Family.
We know you are in great pain and sadness. Know that we grieve with you, not for you. For we knew how much you loved , adored and admired your dear Mother. It is truly one of the most painful things you will experience in your life. Hold tight to the knowledge that you were so blessed , to have such a woman for your very own mother & grandmother. She was the type of woman, born to be a mother, and you all reaped the harvest of that. God bless you all, and know how very wealthy your family was, with your sweet mother at the helm.
Love Ken & Penny.
