Alice Strasheim, a long-time resident of Miles City, died on Wednesday, July 25, 2018, at Friendship Villa Healthcare Community. She was born on October 18, 1925, in Sidney, Montana, the second child of eleven children born to Henry and Anna (Scheetz) Rau.
Alice’s early years were spent in the Fairview area. She attended Ridgelawn School and Fairview High School. She married Benjamin Strasheim on March 26, 1944, in Sidney. They had three children, Audrey, Raymond, and Michael.
For the first 14 years of marriage, Alice and Ben resided in Sidney. Ben became unable to work following a heart attack in 1950. At that time, Alice began working to support the family. In 1958, the family moved to Terry, Montana, when Ben was able to resume farming. When he died in 1965 at age 46, the farming operation was taken over by her son, Raymond. After Mike finished school in 1978, Alice relocated from Terry to Miles City.
Alice worked in a number of capacities throughout her life. While living in Sidney, she worked at a grocery store, Jerry’s Market. She worked in a restaurant and a grocery store in Terry and as a nurse’s aide at the Terry Hospital. In Miles City, she worked in the restaurant business, most of which was at the 4-Bs Restaurant. In 2005, at age 79, she had to give up working full-time due to health issues.
Throughout her long life with its many challenges, Alice maintained a deep and abiding faith and a desire to help others. She had an affinity for people in need and for homeless animals. The people who knew her, worked with her, and cared for her would describe her as kind, loving, hard-working, and considerate, with a measure of stubbornness and iron-will.
Alice is survived by her daughter, Audrey (Emil) Erhardt of Billings; her son, Mike (Sherry) Strasheim of Terry; her daughter-in-law, Linda Cashatt Strasheim of Terry; her four grandchildren, Kerri Strasheim of Bozeman; Lynn (Jimmy) Schilling of Terry; Kyla (Glen) Bratz of Dickinson, ND; Brady (Callie) Strasheim of Washburn, ND. Her great-grandchildren are Landen and Sienna Schilling, Simon and Evelyn Bratz, and Rylan and Rhett Strasheim. She had two step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. Five sisters also survive her: Alvina Schmitt, Shirley Price, Carol (Dennis) Herbolsheimer, Donna Webber, and Joanne Hagler. In addition, she is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and their families. Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Ben; her son, Raymond, in 2016; and her sister, Emma Uhrich, and four brothers, Albert, Elmer, Melvin, and James Rau.
Donations in memory of Alice may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at 225 North Michigan Avenue Floor 17 Chicago, IL 60601.

I will miss my Auntie Alice. She was my godmother and she was good to me as a child, always remembering my birthday and other special occasions. She’s with Emma again and they are probably sharing memories, laughing and watching over all of us. May she rest in peace now and may Audrey, Mike and all the family also have peace now that she is in God’s hands.
