Ann Marie Gary, age 78, entered the Gates of Heaven and was greeted by her mother and father, Deno and Julia (Togher) Gary on June 18, 2021.
Ann was born February 1, 1943, in Billings, MT. She was her father’s favorite child (according to her siblings) as when she was a toddler, he was confined for many months to his bed with an illness. Many stories were read together, games were played, and this created an extraordinarily strong bond between the two.
Ann attended schools in Laurel, MT and graduated Laurel High School in 1961. She attended Eastern Montana College and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Education in 1966. Her first job was in Miles City, and she taught at Highland Park Elementary for many years. She was a favorite teacher to many, and she loved her students. She always enjoyed visiting with former students and had the great ability to remember their names.
Ann was proud of her Irish Catholic ancestry. Friday nights she would have a hamburger cooked and ready to eat at 12:01 AM. Her Mother spent the last 4 years of her life with Ann in Miles City. First in her home and then at the Friendship Villa. She was dedicated to visit her mom daily during the week and on the weekend, she would go a couple times each day. When Ann had a surgery and was not advised to go to the rest home, her special friends made a schedule and took turns visiting her mom. She dedicated her life to service to her family, children in the community and her friends. She was a member of Delta Gamma, PEO, and the Democratic Party.
She is survived by a brother, Frank Gary of Butte, MT and a sister, Kathy Robichaud of Shreveport, LA. A sister-in-law, Amanda Gary from El Centro, CA and two nephews; Johnathon Mota and Robert Robichaud both of Daytona Beach, FL; one niece, Julie Robichaud, Ann was a proud and loving Godparent of Trinity Robichaud from Forest Park, IL. Ann is also survived by lifetime friends; Arby Wolf, Elaine Schieffer, and Catherine Whitney all of Miles City, MT and a companion, Della Braydon of Miles City. She is preceded in death by a brother, John, and a brother-in-law Robert Robichaud.
Funeral Mass will be held July 9, 2021, at the Sacred Heart Church at 10:00 AM. A luncheon will follow at the Riley Center. Burial will follow in Laurel Cemetery at 2:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Miles City School District #1 1604 Main Street Miles City, MT 59301. Condolences can be sent on www.stevensonandsons.com.

Ann was always so good and thoughtful to me while teaching at Highland Park. Every St. Patty’s Day she made sure to give me a card celebrating our Irish heritage. A truly special teacher who loved her students and helping them learn as well as so good to her fellow educators. I will cherish many fond memories and may all her loved ones have those special memories to help you all through this difficult time.

I had Ms. Gary for third grade the year that Highland Park first reopened in the late 70’s before the big remodel. The classroom was one of four in two portable trailers. Mrs. Hampton taught first grade in the other trailer. I don’t remember the other two teachers. She taught third grade at Lincoln for at least the two years before that.

Kathy and Frank: So saddened to hear of Ann’s passing. She was a fine lady very much like your Mother. Rejoice that she is now in heaven with your parents and John. Again, sorry for your loss and remembering you both and Ann in our thoughts and prayers.

Ann was a wonderful person. I have so many fond memories of family parties, tea parties and going out for dinner. She was a part of our family and was part of so many important events in my life. Mom has already had her over for coffee and desert a dozen times. She will be missed
