On March 28, 1930 Arlene Edna Holman was born to Clarence and Molly (Dvorak) Holman, the little sister to Howard and later big sister to Shirley and Esther. Arlene attended country schools in the Volborg area and graduated from Custer County High School in Miles City. Arlene worked various jobs in Miles City; however, her main priority was raising her family.
Arlene was a beautiful seamstress keeping her children in current fashions, her husband in western shirts, her grandchildren in clothing stitched with love, in addition to her own wardrobe. Arlene also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and cross-stitching. Arlene loved all the family pets they had throughout the years. In later years she found comfort in their companionship.
Potato soup with special dumplings, fried chicken from a cast iron skillet and cream gravy, and chocolate chip cookies just are not the same as what Mom/Grandma made for us.
Arlene departed this life on earth Wednesday, November 04, 2015 at Saint Vincent Hospital in Billings, MT due to complications from a stroke. Joining those who passed before her: husband of 53 years Stanley (2004); parents Clarence (1983) and Molly (1990), and brother Howard (2009).
Survivors include: son Walter (Carol) Nelson; grandchildren Justin (Brittney) Nelson; Jennifer (Chancey) Andrews and great-grandchildren Seth and Kailey Andrews; daughter Marlene (Jack) Huckins and granddaughter Amber Huckins along with her sister Esther Culpepper, many nieces and nephews, and close friends established throughout Arlene’s 85 years with us.
No funeral services will be held at this time per Arlene’s wishes. Should friends desire, cards may be sent to the family of Arlene Nelson, P.O. Box 621, Miles City, MT 59301. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Miles City is in charge of the arrangements.

Your family is in my thoughts and prayers. I always enjoyed visiting at Arlene and Stan’s house as a child when we traveled to Montana each year. I remember delicious cookies and breakfast! It was always nice to visit and catch up with her when she visited Oklahoma. She loved to tell you about her grandkids and pets. Know you all have lots of good memories of her. She was a wonderful sister to my Mom, know my Mom will miss her phone calls.
