Arthur Marshall, Noh’kol’gehts (Last bear Standing) was born August 22, 1960 to Elsie Whitehawk and Arthur Marshall Sr. Art, as everyone knew him, was taken home by Maheo on July 2nd 2020. Art was a Northern Cheyenne tribal member, a member of the Elkscraper society, and lived his life in Lame deer where he was raised by his Grandmother Alice Medicine Flying along with his brother Robert Bearchum Jr., whom Art helped to raise.
Art attended school at Northern Cheyenne tribal school where he graduated, later enrolling at Chief Dull Knife College. During this time, Art worked as a wild land firefighter, Northern Cheyenne Tribal security, Northern Cheyenne Shoulderblade complex security, and I.H.S. security guard.
Art’s hobbies included playing basketball, hunting and playing hand game. Art was a three time Golden Glover and horseshoe champion, traveling to many tournaments with his late uncle Robert Bearchum Sr.
Art later married Rita Nomee and from this union had three daughters: Veronica (Hubert) Marshall, Alyse (Montague) Marshall and Ember (Floyd) Marshall. He also helped raise two step-daughters, Paulette Nomee and Leota Stops. Art lived with his brother Robert (Angel) Bearchum Jr. and his namesake Robert Bearchum III.
Art loved to share his knowledge of the Cheyenne language with his nephew and he enjoyed spending his time with his brother Robert, helping him as a little league manager for the wolves in 2017 and 2018 where they took league and tournament championship. Art was known for his amazing cooking and bread making skills. Art was a very humble person; he spent his time riding around town on his bike. He will be greatly missed.
Art leaves behind his siblings Tony (DeAnn) Marshall, Arlene and Opie Marshall, Ursula Khron and James Tallwhiteman, his other sisters and brothers: Imelda Barney, Mildred Red Cherries, Joyce Woundedeye, Davis and Oliver and Melvin Woundedeye. Art was one of my faithfuls in the WIP program at St Labre. He was always faithful to the program and a great worker. He brought with him a unique blend of humor and wisdom and many participants looked up to him. I was saddened to hear of his passing. He was a good guy.

Send my condolences to the family of Art Marshall, I had just met Art over the past year, and he talked and laughed and told me in Cheyenne about his circumstances, usually funny. Hey thanks for being a friendly person with a bright perspective and always willing to help out with the Cheyenne language…for those of us trying to keep the Cheyenne ways and language alive. Be Blessed with Maheo!
