Barb Melchior, age 75, of Miles City passed away on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at the Holy Rosary Hospital surrounded by her family.
Barb was born to Walter and Edith Halvorson on August 29, 1946, in a car in Berthold, ND on the way to Minot. Barb did not tell the family what model of car she was born in, but we suspect it was a Yellow Chevrolet Camaro Convertible. Barb would join her only sibling, Gary, who was eight years older than her.
Barb grew up on the family farm in Palermo, ND and attended Palermo High School where she graduated in 1964. She attended the Mercy Nursing School in Dickinson where she graduated as an LPN in 1966. Barb would tell the story of her walking home from nursing school and meeting an older gentleman by the name of John Melchior who was always sitting on his steps. Through that meeting, Barb was introduced to John’s son Roger and a whirl wind romance began. Roger and Barb were married on July 2, 1967. While living in Dickinson, they welcomed, a son, Gary in 1968 and a daughter, Melissa in 1969. They transferred the family to Miles City in 1970. While in Miles City they added two more children, a son, Brandon in 1979 and a daughter, Lindsey in 1981.While in Miles City, Barb worked at the Custer County Rest Home for several years before going to TLC Personal Care Home. Barb and Roger would eventually buy and run TLC until 2011. Barb truly loved the residents and treated them like family.
Barb was preceded in death by her husband, Roger of 52 years, parents, Walter and Edith Halvorson, brother Gary and a granddaughter Jastina (daughter of Brandon and Sarah), numerous aunts and uncles and cousins.
Barb is survived by her children Gary (Carol) Melchior of Helena; Melissa (Marvin) Reddick; Brandon (Sarah) Melchior; and Lindsey (Jacob) Nunn all of Miles City, and grandchildren, Ryan (Jessie) and Jace Reddick; Mazzie (Payton) Huffman, Griffin, Cobin and Grace Melchior; Jaxon Nunn; Ember (Matt) Harper and four great grandchildren Ryland and Warren Huffman, Liam and Nora Harper; special cousins Helen (Bob) Grant, Carlyle Halvorson, Richard (Linda) Halvorson, Mary Esther Troxel, Bonnie Ingebritson, Sandy Enget and David Halvorson.

To Barb’s Family,
My sincere condolences. Barb was very influential in helping start the TLC with Grama Jobbe, Jeannie, and Joyce. When they started the TLC, it was the first one in the state. I was so happy your folks were able to eventually become sole proprietors. They devoted much of their time taking care of the residents and home, making everyone feel like family. It has been (well …let’s not talk years, let’s just say) since the summers of 1984-1987 since I worked with Barb, but I would think of her through the years and wonder where the Melchior family was doing. Thank you for sharing her kindness and caring of others and being a friend to Grama Jobbe.
Rest in Peace Barb. You are now with many people who were missing you and looking forward to seeing you again.

My grandfather was at TLC the last couple of years of his life. Your mother was an extremely caring individual and I cannot tell you how much we appreciated the care and compassion she showed to all of her residents. On another note, I have been her neighbor for over the last 30+ years and while I did not see her often, every time I did, I enjoyed her company and we had good times visiting. She also was right there if you needed help. She was a jewel. God bless you all as your grieve her loss. Donna Orthman
