Barbara Sackman, age 87, of Fallon/Terry, Montana, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Friday January 27, 2023, at The Sanford Medical Center, Bismarck, ND.
Barbara was born May 7, 1935, in Weston, WI, the daughter of Norman Moore and Marjorie (McCulloch) Moore. At 16 years of age, Barbara came to Mildred, Montana, to visit her sister Corrine. While there she met Alvin Sackman, who became the love of her life. On October 17, 1951, they were married. Barbara and Alvin shared their entire married life at their home on the Fallon Flat, where they farmed, ranched, and raised three children. After Alvin passed away in 2002, Barbara stayed on the family farm for 9 more years. In 2011, she moved into Terry where she enjoyed her home and friends until 2022.
Barbara always took great pride in her yard, flowers, and garden. In the summer she greatly enjoyed being outside tending to God’s creation, spending the winter months planning what she might do next in her yard, painting her many lawn ornaments, and deciding what flowers she would plant next. It was said that her yard was an oasis on the desert of the Flat.
In Terry, she joined a quilting group and spent many fun days quilting and visiting with others in the group. She also enjoyed many meals at the Senior Citizens Center. In 2022 for health reasons, she chose to move to Bismarck ND.
Barbara faithfully served her Lord which was evident through the way she lived her life and her devotion to the Fallon Evangelical Church. The years she lovingly taught Good News Club, were still a treasured memory for her. Barbara was an unwavering Christian example to many, a loving wife, and an unconditional source of love to her children. Barbara will be greatly missed by all of us, but she was excited and ready to meet her Savior.
Barbara is survived by her two daughters and son-in-law, Cathy Sackman of Billings; Aileen (Bill) Kickert of Bismarck; three granddaughters, Abbey (Kyle) Wink of Billings; Cassie Kickert of Bismarck; Krista Frederick and Hayden Eldridge of Fargo; 5 great grandchildren, Tenley and Waylen Wink; Jorja Kickert; Pyper and Myles Frederick; brother, Orin (Linda) Moore of Spring Valley, WI; sister-in-law, Margaret Moore of White Bear Lake, MN; many nieces and nephews; special friends Dennis and Rita Teske; and so many more great lifelong friends.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Marjorie Moore; her husband, Alvin Sackman; her son, Tom Sackman; brothers, John, and Calvin Moore; sisters, Corrine Victora and Leta Powell; and good friend Lefty Wolfe.

Shayna Kalmback Phalen says
I’m so glad to read that she enjoyed doing Good News Club… because we all sure enjoyed going there! The whole school usually attended. How many places today would get 100% turnout at a Christian after school program? I remember her telling a true story of a brown-eyed girl being upset she wasn’t born with pretty blue eyes. Later in life the girl in the story became a missionary and wouldn’t have been able to sneak into certain countries if she would have had blue eyes. That has stuck with me over 30 [plus] years. And, of course, the Good News song has too. 🙂 I’m sure it was a thankless job at the time, but I’m so thankful for her and Dorothy doing that for all of us Fallon kids! Praying for peace and comfort for you all.
Sandi Waldo says

I recall Barbara as Sunday School teacher. She was so patient with our big class of boys, even when asked questions about if God also created aliens.
