Crystal Dawn Spang Smith, age 44 of Lame Deer. Born 11/18/1978 to Jule & Elaine Spang Sr. was called home 1/7/23 at St. Vincents Hospital, Billings MT. Hotoa’hehe (Buffalo Woman) named after her Aunt/Godmother Jenny Spang, Littlecoyote.
Crystal graduated from Lame Deer Highschool in 1996. During her elementary and high school years she participated and excelled in gymnastics, basketball and track.
Soon after high school Crystal met the love of her life Richard Smith Sr, whom she later married and together they had 6 beautiful children. She loved her family deeply and passionately, Crystal was her children’s biggest fan, supporting them all the way in whatever sport they were participating in whether it was basketball, football, softball, or rodeos, she was there guiding & cheering them on.
Crystal became an EMT in 1999 and began her life long career at the Northern Cheyenne Ambulance Service, gaining many friends along the way.
Crystal was the youngest of nine siblings and as the baby she was spoiled rotten, she pretty much had everybody wrapped around her little finger. Mom was her best friend, traveling partner & provider whom she missed dearly. Growing up on the family ranch Crystal enjoyed horseback riding and playing and hanging out with her neighborhood cousins and running in the fields with the family pet dogs. Often during her outings she would disappear, her big sister/babysitter would find her in some sort of predicament such as being stuck in the creek or tangled up in barbwire. Crystal would take her siblings money and go bury it outside and forget where she buried it, to this day she has treasurers buried all over the ranch. November 18th was a special day for Crystal, she shared a birthday with her older brother Gus, and cousin Rayetta Jordan, they are all together now,and you can bet that the heavens will be rocking November 18th.
Crystal was preceded in death by her mom Elaine, brothers Wilbur, Arnold “Gus” & Ricky Spang, her paternal grandparents Alfonso & Mary Spang, Maternal grandparents James & Irene Salois. Aunt/Godmother Jenny Spang Littlecoyote, Jewel Gilham, Winnie, Iona, & Merle Salois, Uncles: Ernest, Gordon, Burt, Darrell “Sonny”, & Wilmer Spang, Eldon, Gaylen, Timber, & Burton Salois, a special cousin Rayetta Jordan.
