Cyro Jon Littlebird, Véhóéso “Little Chief”, age 23, of Lame Deer, MT made his journey to Ma’hēō’o on March 1, 2018 at his home in Rosebud.
Cyro was born on November 2, 1994 in Crow Agency, MT. He was the oldest son of Monica & Dominic Norse.
Cyro attended school at St. Labre & Lame Deer High School, graduating from LDHS in 2013. While in school, he participated in cross country, football, basketball, played the saxophone in band & was a singer with the St. Labre drum group.
An avid member of the community, Cyro was always willing to help anyone in time of need. He had a gift of singing & loved to sing handgame, pow wow, Native American Church, 49 & Cheyenne ceremonial songs. He was a song maker, singing since he was a child, with his first steps as a baby walking to a drum. Affectionately known as “Ro Ro” in his childhood, he had a strong mother-son bond and was often teased for being his “momma’s” baby.
Cyro was an enrolled member of the Crow Tribe & a proud member of the Northern Cheyenne Tribe. A member of the Hémo’eoxeso, he held the position of door man in the Elk Horn Scraper Society. Being prepared to be a Road Man, Cyro was also a member of the Native American Church & was currently an apprentice to many positions. As a Cheyenne ceremonial person, he had just earned the right to be a fasting priest. From these accomplishments Cyro was highly regarded in his young age as a role model & student of our cultural ways.
Cyro had held various jobs, currently being employed at the Cheyenne Depot in Lame Deer. He always greeted everyone with a friendly demeanor and genuine concern. He also worked as a local ranch hand in the Lame Deer and Fort Belknap areas, a cook at Charging Horse Casino and at the Lame Deer Public School as maintenance/janitorial. He was interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement and received mentorship and encouragement from his uncles Randy Elliot and Jon Hawley.
Cyro stayed busy with his many interests in life. He loved to play handgame & was always ready to play with his handgame family. Taught to hunt by his father Dominic, Cyro enjoyed providing wild game meat for his grandparents. His father Dominic also taught & inspired him in his mechanical, bull riding & rodeo abilities.
No matter where it was, Cyro always acknowledged all of his relatives with a big smile & a big bear hug or handshake. Coming from a close-knit family, he really loved his grandparents whole-heartedly & enjoyed spending time with them. He continually made sure his parents were okay and loved all of his family unconditionally. His fun-loving & outgoing nature easily made him many friends throughout his life & their lives will be forever touched by his passionate & humble soul.
In 2013 Cyro met Maribeth Rider of Fort Belknap & to this union two children were born. On February 10, 2016 he became a father to his son Julian Dewayne Littlebird and on March 9, 2017 to his daughter Lanie Rose Littlebird. They would become the loves of his life, for whom he would do anything for, cherishing and loving them immensely.

I remember Cyro as a student of mine and thought often it would have been nice to have had many more students as considerate, and engaging as he was. I am dismayed at his passing and wish to convey my deepest sympathies to all of his family. May God give you peace.
