Today, we write the obituary for our beloved mother, Delores Marie Two Two Whitecrow. She was born at the Indian hospital in Lame Deer, MT to our late grandfather Steve Two Two Sr and the late Thelma Foote Two Two. She was one of twelve children of the Two Two siblings; the late brothers – Emil Fraser, Steve, George, Raymond, and Calvin Two Two, the living brothers- Marvin and Vincent Two Two and adopted Brother Albert LaRance. Her late sisters Theresa Two Two and Donna Paul, and living sisters- Geraldine Fisher and Amanda Dillard.
Our mother had six children; the late Eugene Archambault, Yvette, George, and Pierre Archambault, and Ruben Sr and the baby -Chad Little Head Sr. She also had adopted sons and daughters (Indian way). Our mother loved each and every one of her grandchildren from the oldest to the youngest. She help raise some of her grandchildren as her own, including Jade and Courtney Bement and Lucian Archambault.
Our mom would tell us stories of growing up along the Tongue River and living on the family ranch with numerous horses and cattle and big gardens, and how our grandpa Steve would work with the land. She attended school at St Labre and moved out to California with her Uncle Adam at an early age, and later went off to boarding school in Flandreau Indian School in South Dakota. She moved back to California and became a “Cali girl” living in San Bernardino, Whittier, and Los Angeles. She would talk about the beach, and how someday her kids should experience the sound of the ocean! Somewhere in that time, she met and married her first husband, George. They lived all over the United States following his high level career with the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Then in the early 70’s, she divorced and moved back to Cheyenne country and met and married her second husband, Bernard. They lived down Tongue River and raised two stud colts- Ruben and Chad. Upon their separation, she met her 3rd husband, Woodrow Whitecrow. Woodrow was a Sundance priest and Chad and I would go down to Oklahoma in June until mid-July for ceremonies. Woodrow stayed in Oklahoma after his mother, Bertha, passed, and my mom stayed in Montana. She became a widow in 2012, and later grew a special friendship with Mr. Jimmy Fox, her final companion.
We all had our unique relationship with our Mom. She had so many friends from all over Indian Country. She would always open her door to people who needed a place to stay or something to eat. She was the type of person who possessed a heart bigger than life and could always make you laugh with her awesome sense of humor!
She attended Billings Business School and worked for the Area office in Billings, Mt. She also worked as a head start teacher, dorm matron, and care giver for our late grandmother Thelma Two Two. But, her best past time was being with her friends, barking orders, and giving rides to “uptown!”
We would like to send shout outs to her classmates from Flandreau, her friends from Cali, all her relatives-( aunts, uncles, nephews and nieces), her Lakota relatives in Sioux country, her Oklahoma people, friends from North Dakota, Alaska, Wyoming, Kansas, Arizona, and Nevada, and last but not least, to all her “Ashland” crew! She will be missed and forever remembered!
We apologize if we didn’t mention any names and/or relatives that may have left out. Our family is large, but we love each and every one of you. One of her favorite quotes she would use was….”don’t worry about small potatoes”.
