On Tuesday, April 10, 2018, Delores Little Coyote-Underwood (Éše’héméóná’e meaning Sun Road Woman), our beloved mother, daughter, grandmother, aunt, and sister went to be with the Lord. She died of natural causes at the Rehabilitation and Health Center in Polson, Montana. She was born July 13, 1935 in Lamedeer, Montana to Eugene Little Coyote and Jeanette Huntley Brey. She graduated from St. Labre in 1953. Later went on to nursing school which was around the time she met her ex-husband Ed Underwood. Ed was a Paratrooper in the United States Army and was stationed place to place. This took Delores to Germany for some years and later moved back to the United States when Ed was stationed in Clarksville, TN. She moved back to her family ranch after the passing of Dewey and Henry Brey in 1971. Since then, Delores has lived out her life here in Montana and earned a bachelor’s degree in Social Work at Chief Dull Knife in Lamedeer and worked for St. Labre Cheyenne Home as a private social worker for kids. After the Cheyenne Home, she went to work in the computer room at St. Labre. Down the road, she retired and moved to Billings, Montana with her son and helped raise her grandkids.

Her family-in-law whom she adored were Kristy’s family; Pamela (Al) Garza, Edwina (Albert) Perez, Clarise Kindness.
Delores lived a beautiful life with her one and only son whom she adored with all her heart. She gave up her life to give her grandchildren a chance in life which was a great goal of hers and she accomplished very well. She was a very humble, unselfish, Godly woman who loved the Lord with all her heart and carried on her love for Christ to her grandkids. Oh, how Delores loved all her loved ones so much. Not only did she love to socialize with her family and friends, but she socialized and adored all people who walked through our doors and took them as her own.
She loved to sit and watch old westerns while she drank her coffee and ate candy especially her juicy fruit. She loved to sit in her chair waiting for friends and family to come visit her. She was a very special woman who touched the hearts of many, especially her grandkids she helped raise.
We want to give a huge thanks to the Polson Rehabilitation and Health Center for taking care of our grandmother since 2016. We appreciate all the doctors, nurses, and CNA’s who cared for her daily. We also want to give a respected shout out to all other family members (Seminoles, Elkshoulders, Fox’s, Gray’s, Big Head’s, Standing Elks’s, Perez’s, Garza’s, Alden’s, and Yellowrobe’s). Delores has a huge family, so we apologize if we overlooked other family members. A special thank you to her friends; Charlotte Whiteman, Eloise Whitewolf, Carmie Adams, and Elcha Adams you all have been a huge part of her life and we appreciate each one of you.

The loss of a cherished loved one is the most devastating experiences a family can face. At times, the loss may seem unbearable. Please know that there are family and friends who care and more importantly Psalm 34:18 tells us that “God is near to those that are broken at heart. He is the God of all comfort. God will comfort you during this difficult time of grief. Our prayers are also with you and your family.

My deepest condolences to Delores family during this sad time. I remember Delores from when I lived at Cheyenne/St Labre back in 1979/80. She was a very kind and loving person who just loved all us kids. She worked hard and long hours and everytime you seen her she was carrying a arm load of files just making sure all her case file were taken care of. She worked hard to ensure that the children of Cheyenne Homes had the best care. You don’t forget about people like her. She will live on in our memories. I will be praying for her son and family. Spread your wings and fly Delores.

My heart has an empty space that not a soul could ever fill. She was an amazing woman. The strength she exuded and the compassion she had for all was the closest to the Lord I could get here on earth. The lord had a special spot prepared for her in heaven. Now she is Truely keeping every single one of us safe from heaven exactly how she did on earth. I’ve been deeply blessed by knowing her.
I love you Doloras
