Dorathea Ruth (Sommer) Hoverson age 79 of Jordan, MT passed away at home on November 6th, 2019 with her loving dog “Punkin” by her side.
Dorathea, Dorothy, or better known as Grandma Dot was born in Glendive Montana July 17th, 1940 to William & Mildred (Proetel) Sommer.
Dorothy attended many different schools through her childhood moving around eastern Montana with her family while her dad was a sheep herder, some of which included Nashua, Glendive, and Circle. She completed her schooling days when she received her GED later in life.
On June 14th, 1958 she married the love of her life Richard “Dick” Hoverson in Miles City MT. A couple of years after being married they had Danny Jo (Dan) and a few short years later Bobby (Bob) joined the family. Dorothy loved her sons and was always proud of them in everything they did.
Dorothy’s family was her greatest joy, not just biological but anyone who entered her home soon became family. She was known to tell anyone who came to visit that after thirty minutes you weren’t a guest anymore. (Which meant you also got to help with chores inside or out whichever needed done.) Grandma Dot gladly welcomed all her Van Norman kids of all ages anytime they wanted to stop by to visit. Grandma Dot was always there for “her” kids’ events, she attended many school plays, sporting events, spelling bees, play days, and so many other events. She loved to help her grandchildren get all dressed up for and then head to the Van Norman school for the annual Halloween party.
Dorothy is survived by her two sons Dan Hoverson, Bob (Juanita) Hoverson both of Jordan MT. Sister Shirley (Harold) Gilbertson of Miles City MT, Brother Fred Sommer of Jordan MT, Sister-in-law Martha Edsall of Bozeman MT, Grandchildren Nikki (Zander) Heide of Circle MT, Noell (Aaron) Martinson of Terry MT, and Newell (Rebecca) Hoverson of Jordan MT, Great Grandchildren Carl ,Katie, and Alexander Heide, Abigail Martinson, and Henry Hoverson. Numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and so many people she loved.
Dorothy is preceded in death by husband Richard “Dick” Hoverson, Brother Bill Sommer, her parents.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at the VFW Hall in Jordan, MT. Burial will follow at the Pioneer Cemetery in Jordan. Condolences to the family may be sent by visiting www.stevensonandsons.com.

So very sorry for your loss. Dorothy was the first person I remember when we had the wreck when we lost our Mom. She was holding and comforting me when I came to. I have always cherished that. God’s blessings to you all.

I relish the memories of growing up with Dan and Bob and our families spending a ton of time together. My all time favorite thing was Dorothy’s sense of humor and her adorable giggle. She was definitely a special person and was loved by all. Prayers to you all.
