Dorothy Annetta (Gramm) Whitfield passed away on May 9, 2019 as a result of injuries sustained from a motor vehicle accident in Miles City, MT. She was 80 years old. Her family and friends knew her as “Dot”, a spunky and kindhearted native of Miles City. She was the firstborn child of Eugene E. Gramm and Esther Bickel, sister to Gideon, Sami Ann, and Raymond, and wife of Robert M. Whitfield, who have all preceded her in death.
As a young adult, Dot enjoyed working at The Montana Theatre on Main Street, where she met Airman Robert M. Whitfield (“Bob”) and married him. She supported his Air Force career, which sent them to various stateside assignments and two tours to Italy. Together they raised their children Connie L. Smith, twins Alan M. and Michael D., and Robert E. Whitfield. Upon completion of his Air Force career, Bob and Dot returned to Miles City for good. Dot worked with Bob as he drove the shuttle bus for senior citizens in the community in the 1980s. She also enjoyed being able to live on the ranch her father had created in the Pine Hills “just down the hill from Dad”. Dot delighted in being among animals. Cats and dogs always found Dot’s soft spot. She loved her horses and cattle as well. In the last season of her life, Dot enjoyed spending time with Sheila, her best friend since high school, and listening to live bands perform at the VFW with their friends.
Dot leaves behind her children, nieces and nephews, daughters in law Anja, Gayle, and Kathryn, grandchildren Cassandra, Jamie, Mary, Robert Jr., Seth, Megan, Sara, David, Andre, and Katja. She trusted in Jesus and the hope of eternal life with Him, which provides comfort to those who dearly miss her and hope to see her again in heaven.

Gayle Whitfield says
Always willing to lend an ear without interrupting. She was kind, loving, supportive, and kept a positive outlook. She always felt more like a mom than a mother-in-law to me. She will be sorely missed.
Mary Rose says
She was a cousin I had lost contact with for many many years. We got together a few years ago and had a wonderful reunion. It is so sad that we did not keep up the relationship. She was a wonderful lady and will be missed.

Dot’s family and loved ones: We were saddened to read about your ‘great loss’ and want to express our heartfelt condolences. As family and friends comfort one another in the days to come, think about seeing her in a youthful world, full of happiness, doing all the things she loved, and where sorrow and pain will be a thing of the past. May the peace of God be with you all during this difficult time.
