Eleanor Ann Harstad Neurohr left her life on this earth on May 17, 2023, to be with her Lord. She died in St. Benedict’s Care Facility in Dickinson, ND surrounded by family. She was born May 9, 1925, in Westmore, MT to Edwin & Lorna Kudick Freier. The family moved to various places in Eastern Montana as her father was employed by the Milwaukee railroad.
Following graduation from high school in Miles City, MT, Eleanor became a telegrapher for the railroad and worked in the Seattle area until her fiancé, John Harstad, returned from the Army during World War II. They were married on January 2, 1946, in Great Falls, MT after which they moved to the Harstad Ranch on Rosebud Creek.
During her years there, they operated the ranch, and she supported her husband in raising quarter horses and endeavors in racing horses, cutting horse competitions, and his insurance business. For many years, Eleanor was involved in the 4-H program especially sharing her sewing ability and was active in the Federated Church.
John and Eleanor raised their children on that ranch. Lynda Ottun, Peggy Harstad, Monte Harstad, and Rowland Limberhand Harstad have all preceded her in death.
John passed in November 1989 and Eleanor moved to Miles City in 1993. On February 11, 1994, she married John Neurohr of Dickinson, ND. They enjoyed traveling with the Miles Milers Good Sam Club, cooking for the Drop-in-Center senior citizen activities and the Eastern Montana Fiddlers Association, gardening, playing pinochle, and attending polka fests. She found comfort through her faith and was active in the Presbyterian Church where she became a Deacon in 1996 and enjoyed her ministry with her Elizabeth Circle friends.
They moved to Dickinson in April of 2018 to be near John’s family. Her husband John died in August of 2020. Eleanor remained in Dickinson until her passing.
She was preceded in death by her five siblings: Florence Yablonski, Robert Freier, Shirley Newman, Agnes Comstock, and Harold Freier; nephew Donald Yablonski; and her parents.
Eleanor is survived by and had a special place in her heart for her granddaughters, Joeleen Ottun (Cody) Cox and their children Elle and Dylan; and Jamie Ottun. She is also survived by her grandchildren JD Anderson, Sean and Jessica Harstad; son-in-law Jon Ottun; sister-in-law Barb Freier; nine Neurohr stepchildren and their families, all of Dickinson, ND; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Miles City. A luncheon will take place at the church following the Funeral Service. A private family interment will take place at a later date in the Forsyth Cemetery.

Big John & Eleanor were some of the best customers at Gallagher’s with Don & Ruthie Schott and Dick & Jean Coffman. John & Kathy Munsell says
We knew Eleanor and John through Bible studies. Eleanor had a kind, non-critical spirit about her, displaying peace within her and a solid assurance of her eternal destination. Having lost John Harstad, and then all four of her children, one would think that Eleanor might be bitter and unahppy, which she certainly was not…..but known for her kindness and patience. Will be great to see her again on the other side.

Eleanor was wonderful and beautiful lady. She was one of my customers when I sold Avon.
Then to come to find out, the first time I delivered her first order, there was Jon! Her husband John and my Dad Don LaRose worked to together in road construction for Wagner Brothers Construction from Reeder, ND. We all spent many afternoon talking about my Dad, Mom and my sister and his kids and Eleanor family too.
Both were just wonderful people. Eleanor such a gracious hostess every time I visit.
She will deeply missed.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Many blessings.
Carol LaRose Schuetzle and Warren and the rest of the LaRose family.
