In Memory Of

Elsie WeaselBear, age 77, of Lame Deer.

January 31, 1943 – September 16, 2020

Elsie was born on January 31, 1943 to Clarence and Mildred Eaglefeathers Birdchief. Elsie was the eldest of 8 children. She worked hard all her life and always provided and supported her family. Elsie married Herman Weaselbear on September 28, 1966. They moved to Dallas, TX as part of the relocation program in 1967. She was a fluent Cheyenne speaker and was a firm believer in our way of life. Her and her eldest son Kenneth spoke to each other in Cheyenne. She began her journey to Séáne on September 16, 2020. Her heart was broken after the loss of her daughter Leanna Joyce and her best friend Rita Redneck.
Elsie had a very strong work ethic. There were times she had to walk to work. She was employed by the Northern Cheyenne Tribe for 23 years as a Janitor. After retiring she continued to work for the First Interstate Bank. She became extremely close to Barbara Braided Hair when she worked at FIB. She was grateful for all her help and deeply saddened when she passed. Elsie always became friends with her co-workers wherever she worked and friends to her were always treated like family.
She instilled her morals and values in her children and grandchildren. As is Cheyenne custom Elsie raised several of her grandchildren in her home and continued to help raise her great grandchildren. Her home was always open to everyone. She was very generous and would give you her last dollar if you needed it. She never expected anything in return. She always gave the proper honoring for her family, giving all she could, always preparing and saving.
Elsie loved to travel. She traveled all over supporting her family in boxing, basketball, cross country, football and track. She was especially proud of her son’s accomplishments in boxing. She enjoyed visiting her South Dakota Family and the #4 Chargers Womens and Co-Ed softball teams. She liked to travel with her friends and family. The family takes comfort knowing that she is with her best friend Rita Redneck, her daughter Leeanna and the rest of her family that have gone on before her.
Preceding her in death are her parents, her husband Herman Weaselbear, Sr., children Melissa Weaselbear, Leanna Laforge, siblings Earl Birdchief, Dale Birdchief, Bernice Birchief, Jennifer Curtis, Marie Birdchief, Ray Birdchief, grandchildren Taylor Trepanier, Nevada Cruz Beartusk, relatives and special friends Archie Weaselbear, Teddy & Lillian Woodenthigh, Alvina Roundstone, Rosie Eaglefeathers, Rita Redneck, Wendell Roundstone, Richard Roundstone, Hilda Moss, Anna White, Luther Yellowrobe.
Surviving her are her children Kenneth Birdchief, Gilbert “Tiny” Laforge, Herman Jr., Valoria, Elroy Weaselbear, Mike & Anna Weaselbear-Oldcrane, Nadine Weaselbear, Terry Curley, brothers Elvis Birdchief, Winfield Russell, sisters Amelia Birdchief, Lenora Wolfname, Linda Brady, grandchildren Keith, Augusta, Chad, Lana, Hailey, Carla, Marquel, Jeremy, Skyler, Rosaline, Herman III, Leslie, Trent, Morgan, Grant, Aubrey, Fawn, Mountain, Elroy, Jr., Mike, Jr., Melissa, Mikyol, Aiden, Talon, Chris, Jr., Valao; great-grandchildren Isaac, Lucy, Ashton, Rylei, Rylynn, Keith, Jr., Easton, Enzo, Aaliyah, Lalynn, Vincene, Tyrell, Bonnie, Brooklyn, Donatello, Rashaun, Jr., Zephen, Camden, Loulynn, Tobias, special friends/relatives: Les Birdchief (Trixy), Wally, Gary, Tilly Birdchief, Nicole Birdchief, Waylon Birdchief, Niko, Jordan, Khloe, Whisper, Skyla Birdchief, Linn Whiteshield, Brian Redstar, Iola Woodenthigh, Germaine Haugen, Nita Brady, Joe Weaselbear, Carla Weaselbear, Martha Weaselbear, Carla Fisher, Meredith Tallbull, Josephine Firecrow, Jerran Firecrow, Jolene Spang, Rosella Mann, Addie Baker, Roseanne Headswift, numerous nieces and nephews.

Even after you retired you still stopped by to check on me. I will miss you, but I know you are in a happy place, no more pain and suffering. I hope you knew that I loved you like my sister❤Rest in Peace ❤

Anna, Val, Nadine, Kenneth, Herman and Elroy…
Your mother was such a caring and loving mom…grandma…auntie and I’m sure a sister!.
I will always cherish her memory! 😢
She always took us in…when we camped in her yard year after year I know she enjoyed it…often I would wake early and she would be sitting on her small deck. Her first words, ” good morning, coffee is ready!” ❤ entering her home I hear gospel music playing.
This is only one of many many memories…❤
I will be forever grateful to your mom for all her kindness and love…forever!! ❤
I’m so thankful HOKSILA introduced me to his Big Sky Weasel Bear families. I am so sad. 😢
My condolences, prayers and hugs to you all…😭🙏❤
