Elwood S “Tuffy” Ross passed away on October 11, 2014 surrounded by family, ending a courageous battle with cancer. We lost a great husband, dad, brother, uncle and friend to many.
Tuffy was born on November 8, 1946 to Wayne and Margaret Ross in Terry, Montana. He was the fifth child to Margaret and Wayne, following older brother Dennis and sisters Wynona, Lennis, Wava, and preceding little brother Kim into the world. Tuffy and his family lived in Terry, Montana until 1958 when they moved to Billings and he attended schools there, graduating from Billings Senior High in 1965. He went on to join the Navy after graduation, and upon discharge became employed at Montana Dakota Utilities. Tuffy had many great friends and exploits throughout his younger days. He met and married Judy Krivitz of Red Lodge in 1970. Tuffy and Judy raised two remarkable children, John and Jolene.
Tuffy was happiest being on horseback and working cattle. He found his sobriety in 1981, and was able to pursue his passion for the cowboy way as he worked on many ranches in the Busby area, became a brand inspector, and was able to purchase his own ranch on the Rosebud Creek, which was his piece of heaven on earth. Tuffy immensely enjoyed playing cards and was very good at it, especially the poker tournaments he hosted at his place with friends. Spending time with family was special, and even more special when spent with his mother-in-law, “Grandma” Marion Krivitz.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years Judy, son John Wayne (Kaaren), daughter Jolene Martin, and special granddaughters Katie and Allie; brother Dennis (Adeline), sisters Lennis Rightmire (Bill), Wava Robison, youngest brother Kim (Sharon); brother-in-law John Krivitz (Anita) and many niece3s and nephews who adored him. He was preceded in death by his parents Wayne and Margaret, sister Wynona, and father-in-law John Krivitz.
Tuffy made everyone laugh. He was quick witted and usually always had a remark that would make you blush! Thanks for the memories Tuffy, so long……

My sincere condolences to the family of Elwood S. Ross – It was never the Creator’s purpose for mankind to suffer (Romans 5:12). May you find comfort in many great memories of Mr. Ross. In the Bible we are promised a resurrection of dear family members and friends that we have lost (John 5:28, 29). At that time no one will say “I am sick” (Isaiah 33:24). Cherish all the happy memories and be comforted by the Bible promises (John 17:3).
