Ervin Schmidt, age 94, of Miles City passed away April 25, 2013 at Holy Rosary Extended Care in Miles City.
Ervin, son of John and Rosina (Hoffer) Schmidt, was born September 18, 1918 on the family homestead at Angela, MT. The family moved to Regent, ND when Ervin was one year old. He attended various country schools as his father farmed rented land and the family moved frequently. His mother died when he was two years old and shortly after his father remarried. He was blessed with a loving step-mother and eventually two half-sisters who joined a family of three brothers and two sisters.
When his father died in 1933 he moved with his oldest brother Albert to Montana working for his brother and other farmers in the Miles City and Rosebud area. He joined the CCC program in 1936 working in western Montana and Idaho for 1 ½ years
In 1941 he married Alice Jane Flippin in Miles City. To this union two sons, Lloyd and Ronald were born. He served in the US Army in the Pacific during WWII. The family resided in Miles City until 1948 when they purchased an irrigated farm east of Miles City. Ervin had a passion for farming and taking care of his land. Ervin and Alice sold the farm in 1976 and moved back to Miles City. He golfed in a league at the Town and Country Club and was an avid bowler for 50+ years. In 1979 he was elected to the Miles City Bowling Hall of Fame. He was a life member in the VFW, Moose, DAV and Elks. Ervin also enjoyed fishing and camping in his motor-home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Alice in 2008, his brothers, Albert and Art, his sisters, Viola and Lentina and half-sister Trudy.
Ervin is survived by his son Lloyd (Janeen) of Billings, MT and son Ronald (Janice) of Holly Hill, FL., grandchildren Gregory (Anne) Schmidt of WI, Lori (Travis) Croy of NY, Tammy (George) Grindstaff, Ricky (Trish) Schmidt and Kyle Schmidt all of FL. as well as great-grandchildren Elizabeth, Emily, Eden and Evan all of FL plus a half-sister Vi Ziepfel of OH and numerous nieces and nephews.

I am sorry for your loss. I have been able to cope with such losses by relying on God’s work, the bible for encouragement. God promises that one day death will be no more (Isaiah 25:8 and Revelation 21:3,4) He never intended for us to die and he promises that one day there will be a resurrection (Isaiah 26:19, John 5:28,29) We can trust these promises because it is impossible for God to lie (Hebrews 6:18)

I remember Ervin as loving music. As a young man he would dance, do cartwheels and the splits at the Cohagen dance hall. He was a fun guy even up until the end.
