T. “George” Kohones passed away July 25, 2017 at the Holy Rosary Residential Living in Miles City. George was born at the family ranch on the Powder River on November 28, 1925. He was the fourth born of six children. He joined the army in 1945 where he served as a surgical technician on an Army Hospital ship. Upon his return, he married Fern Lambert, and in their union had a son, Kenneth. George was a taxi driver and he worked for the Veterans Administration for 30 years. In 1962, Fern passed away after a battle with cancer. In 1963, George married Joan Thompson. Together, they built five homes in the Miles City area, including the home on the family ranch. George had many talents. He had a gift for creating beautiful leather wallets, checkbook covers, and coin purses. In 1979, George suffered a major stroke. He not only survived but thrived. With Joan by his side, George worked to regain his independence. In his recovery, part of his therapy was making popsicle stick creations which turned into beautiful functioning masterpieces. The lifelong inventor and tinkerer also created new tools and items to help him live life independently following his stroke.
George was preceded in death by his parents Kapiton and Minnie Kohones; brothers Joe and Johnny; sisters Christine Gilbertson and Rose Hoffman; wives Fern Lambert and Joan Thompson; son Kenneth and grandson Shane.
He is survived by his brother Orvell, daughter in law Sandi, step daughter Pat (Doug) Johnson; stepson Gene (Darlene) Keller; 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
