Franklyn E. Dietz, age 90, of Glendive passed away on Wednesday, July 4, 2012 at the Holy Rosary Healthcare in Miles City.
Franklyn was born on June 1, 1922 in Plevna, Montana, the son of Joe and Hazel (Bergman) Dietz. He grew up and attended school in Plevna. Following high school, he attended college for a short time. He then returned to the family ranch where he farmed until enlisting in the United States Army. While serving his country, Franklyn was awarded a Purple Heart. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to the family ranch for a short time before going to work in the oil fields as a truck driver. On August 7, 1968, he married Gloria Kukus in Boxelder, South Dakota. Franklyn and Gloria made their home in Glendive where Franklyn continued working in the oilfields until his retirement in 1984.
Franklyn was a member of the Glendive VFW and American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, working in his yard, tinkering in his shop and spending time with family and friends.
Franklyn is survived by his wife, Gloria Dietz of Glendive, MT; and a son Randy Dietz of Billings, MT. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, a brother and a infant son.
Private military graveside services will be held on Friday, July 20, 2012 at the Eastern Montana State Veteran’s Cemetery with full military honors provided by VFW Post 1579.
