George H. Shawver, age 80, of Jordan passed away on Monday, May 4, 2020 at the Garfield County Nursing Home.
George was born July 10, 1939 in Jordan, Montana to George R. and Marguerite (Ryan) Shawver. He was joined 2 years later by a brother, Alvin. He went to Spring Creek School through 8th grade. He didn’t attend high school but later passed his GED test. He enlisted in the Army Infantry on October 5, 1956 at 17 years of age. While in the Army he earned his Parachutist Badge and was honorably discharged October 3, 1958 at 19. Following his discharge, he returned home and in August of 1959 he married Lena Haney. They had three children: Miles, Craig and Lois. George and Lena were later divorced and on March 10, 1973 George married Lucille Fisher. George was a lifelong Christian.
George spent his earlier years part time on the ranch and working in the Timber around Missoula, Montana. In the early 1980’s he moved back to the ranch and they spent some time working on neighboring ranching’s including the Brown Ranch at Sand Springs, Montana.
George enjoyed riding and driving horses and raising cows. He also enjoyed playing music with his violin or guitar and singing.
George was preceded in death by his wife Lucy, his parents George R. and Marguerite, a granddaughter Tiana Shawver and numerous aunts and uncles. George is survived by his brother Alvin and his wife Gloria and his sons: Miles Shawver, Craig (Tammy) Shawver and daughter Lois Carroll; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, May 8, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Hearts of Peace cemetery in Brusett, MT.
