Maheo chose to take our beautiful mother, wife, sister, auntie, friend, and grandmother,
Gertrude Joyce Killsnight, on the night of October 10, 2015, with most of her family at her bedside. Gertrude, known as Gertie, “Homa’ava’e” (Beaver Woman) was born on April 26, 1956 in Lame Deer to Regina Longroach and James Francis Killsnight, Sr. Gertie grew up and attended the surrounding schools of Lame Deer.
Gerty established a loving relationship with Clovis Wilson for 23 years, from this union they had two sons, Travis (Stephanie) and Jessie (Johnnie ) Wilson. Her other children are: Michael Longroach, Josephine (Dayton) Walksnice, Abbram ( Deanna ) Walksnice, of Ashland, Sam Big Hawk, III, Cheyenne Blue Big Hawk, Isiah (Izzy) Big Hawk, step children, Benji (Bessi) Wilson all from Lame Deer and Sherry Wilson of Alaska. Her adopted sons, Raymond Pine Sr, Brandon Woodenlegs, and Robert Bighawk; her brothers are: Marcian Killsnight, Ferdinand Killsnight, James Killsnight, Clement Killsnight of Lame Deer and Anthony (Betty) of Tulsa, OK; her sisters are: Rosanne (Wayne) Headswift, Drucella (Ambrose) Killsnight, Velecia Killsnight, all of Lame Deer; she also leaves behind her namesake: Tina Horn; Shawn Big Day and Cairo Big Hawk, grandsons that she was raising as her own.
Her parents; brothers: Chris and Xavier; her son Francis Crooked Eyes; granddaughter Nellie M Two Bulls; great granddaughter Alexis Sweet Bowers; Niece Tonya Gene Killsnight; and Nephew Willis Killsnight preceded her in death.
Gertie had 19 grand children, whom she loved very much. She had nieces, nephews and friends, too numerous to mention. One of whom passed away not long after she did, Magdelene (Maggie) Limpy, may they RIP together.
Gertie worked at the Shoulderblade Complex, Cheyenne Depot and LD Trading. She always wanted to go back to work “when she got better.” She was happy just being a stay at home housewife. Gertie was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Church. She was anointed in holy oils during her short stay in the hospital. She enjoyed listening to Bob Marley, Randy Woods and Native American church music.
The family would like to thank all of the Medical Staff at St. Vincent’s that attended to her needs, Frontier Cancer Center and Riverstone Hospice. To all who stopped to see her in the hospital and Deacon Joe who prayed for her, and to her brothers, sisters, spouse and family who stood by her side during this time.
THE FAMILY WOULD LIKE TO SEND THIS MESSAGE TO THE WOMEN AGE 35 AND UP, PLEASE GET YOUR HEALTH SCREENINGS AND MAMMOGRAMS DONE. CANCER IS A DEADLY DISEASE.
AS THIS IS WHAT TOOK OUR BELOVED GERTIE.
