Gladys (Lloyd) Schipman, age 85, of Miles City passed away on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at the Holy Rosary Health Center in Miles City.
Gladys was born in Circle, Montana on November 21, 1929, the daughter of James (Andy) and Hazel Lloyd. She was one of nine girls and one boy: Dorothy, Myrtle, Leona, Patsy, Shirley, Beverly, Evelyn, Myrna and Harold. She also had five half brothers and sisters: Glen, Freda, Beatrice, John and Cleo. Her parents homesteaded near Circle and Gladys attended school in Circle. She worked as a waitress and nurse’s aid until 1946 when she met Lyle Schipman at a dance. They were married at Wolf Point, Montana on June 14, 1947. They ranched in Eastern Montana and near Lewistown, Montana. They lived in Billings, Montana until 1977 when they moved to Rosebud, Montana where Lyle worked as a caterpillar operator until he retired in 1984. Gladys and Lyle were blessed with five children: Hazel, Stewart, Gordon, Donna and Pam.
Gladys loved spending time with her husband and family. She enjoyed raising a garden and flowers. She also loved to fish and did so whenever they could. When Lyle retired he joined the Old Time Fiddlers in Miles City and they met so many wonderful people. They continued dancing as they had for the 53 years they were married. Lyle passed away in November 18, 2000. Maybe they will dance to the “Golden Fiddlers” in the sky when they meet again.
Gladys is survived by her children: Stewart (Marie) Schipman of Miles City, MT; Gordon (Jan) Schipman of Phoenix, AZ; Hazel (Terry) Hodges of Mountain Home, ID; Donna Schipman of Billings, MT; and Pam Beardsley of Rosebud, MT; one brother, Harold Lloyd of Billings, MT; two sisters: Patsy Arthur of Glendive, MT and Shirley Hoverson of Glasgow, MT; nine grandchildren: Melissa (Jay) Murray, Kimberly (Phil) McCluskey, T.J. (Karen) Hodges, David Schipman, Tracey (Tyler) Simard, Jennifer Adams, Casey Schipman, Jessica (Merle) Blankenship and Danielle Beardsley; eighteen great grandchildren: Morgan, Hunter, Cooper, Addison, Matthew, Aven, Grayson, Dante, Sebastian, Austin, Shanna, Skyler, Rachel, Nicholas, Spencer, Jessica, Cadence and Ryatt; and one great great grandchild, Kendyl. She was preceded in death by two step brothers: Johnny and Glen Lloyd; six sisters: Dorothy Strong, Myrtle Lloyd, Leona Strand, Beverly Lloyd, Evelyn Carpenter, and Myrna Lloyd; three step-sisters: Freda Kaul, Beatrice Blewitt, and Cleo Nasby.
