Irene Joanne Hayter, 61, of Forsyth, MT, passed away on August 1st, 2019.
Cremation has taken place through Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home. Celebration of Life Services will be held at a later date, to be determined, in Butte, MT. The scattering of her ashes will follow at the highest hiking point up Fleecer Mountain.
Irene was born in Bismarck, ND on January 1st, 1958. She spent the first few years of her life in leg casts and was a Shriners Kid having been born without a hip socket. Early on and throughout her life she bravely faced this adversity that caused her a lifetime of physical pain. She attended and graduated from Forsyth High School. Irene married Apostle Paul Spencer, July 17th, 1976, in Forsyth, MT and they had 3 children. After moving to Butte, MT in 1986 she worked as a Radiology Technician for St. James Hospital and did home health care for many years. She loved helping people and these jobs gave her great pride and joy. She was an avid gardener and was dubbed “green Irene” for her many beautiful houseplants, gorgeous gardens and obvious green thumb. She wrote heartfelt poetry with some of her work having been published. She made incredible and very detailed quilts for those closest to her, which was a hobby she was passionate about since childhood. She was also a talented photographer who enjoyed capturing the beautiful and rustic landscapes of her home state of Montana. Irene was a free-spirited person and remained true to her hippy roots throughout the years.
We will all miss our mother, our grandmother, our great grandmother and friend. We thank her for showing us what true strength is, having lived a life full of adversity. We know she is in the loving hands of the Lord, who will heal her physical and emotional pain. We were all so blessed to have been a part of her life here on earth.
Irene is preceded in death by the love of her life, Apostle Paul Spencer, her mother Frances Nellie Vetter Hayter and her grandparents: John and Petranellie Vetter and Pearl and Nellie Hayter and her Great Aunt Florence.
Irene is survived by her brother Arnold Hayter, her daughter Starla (Dustin) Spencer, her daughter Laci Spencer and her son Apostle Paul (Tara) Spencer. Her several grandchildren whom she adored and loved: Ashley Harrington, Ayden Dennis, Isaiah Spencer, Creed Spencer, Caiden Spencer and Ryot Spencer and great-grandchildren Charlotte and
Jack Harrington.
The family of Irene Hayter wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Stevenson and Sons Funeral Homes for their compassion and kindness during this difficult time.
