Isaac Clarence Bement, Heovemome’e’xa’ehe, Yellow Tangled Hair, our dad, brother, uncle and papa went on his journey to be with our Creator on November 13, 2014. Ike was born on December 5, 1951 in a log house north of Ashland on the banks of the Tongue River to Clarence Mickey Bement and Fannie Shoulderblade.
Ike grew up in Ashland in an area called Rabbit Town. He attended the St. Labre Mission where he graduated in 1971. He was also a member of the Bruno Boys.
He was part of the Indian Action Program, where he became a professional carpenter, electrician, and plumber. He worked for many construction companies including St. Labre, Cleat Stevenson, Ray Lillianthal, Northern Cheyenne Tribal Housing Authority, Becker Flooring and Nick’s Handyman Services. He worked with skilled carpenters such as Cleat Stevenson and Sarge Elliot. He passed some of his skills on to James Wick. Ike was a perfectionist, so if you didn’t do the job right, he made sure you did it over. A lot of people called on him for various carpentry, plumbing and electrical jobs.
He was a diehard New England Patriots fan, and he faithfully watched every game they played. He loved to socialize and joke with many family and friends, whom he had various nicknames for each. He enjoyed his grandkids very much.
He met Henrietta One Bear in 1979 and they shared 35 years together.
Ike was preceded in death by his parents; adopted daughter Rosella Woodenthigh; brothers: Robert Miller, Benji Bement, Morris Bement, Sr., Victor Woodenthigh; sister Mary Ann Eagle; niece Mary Eagle; nephew Barry James Brady; and a great granddaughter Chanelle Ziler Bighead.
He is survived by his wife, Henrietta; sons: Manny Bighead Jr. of Billings, Benjamin (Amanda) Bighead Morningstar of Heart Butte, Brynie Whitewolf of Pablo, Brycie Whitewolf of Washington State, Freddie Bement and Myron (Annie) Bement, both of Ashland; adopted sons: Robert Shotgun of Birney, and Adrian Foote Jr. of the family home; daughters: Nicki Bement Swanson and Lynette Bighead of Ashland; brothers: Robbie (Myrtle) Bement of Ashland, Robert (Skunkie) Brien of Lame Deer, Fred Brien of Colstrip, Clifford Takes the Horse and Eugene Old Elk of Crow Agency; a special brother-in-law Jose One Bear, Jr.; sisters: Barbara (Harlan) Tallbull of Muddy Creek, Rita Shoulderblade of Ashland, Tiny Two Moons of Lame Deer, Arlene Gray of Ashland, Patty Kay Brien of Billings, Magoo Shoulderblade; sisters-in-law: Inez Foote, Kathy Beartusk, Judy (Dean) Allen, Roxie (Calvin) Wilson, Robyn Spang, Fran Spang, Angie (Andy) Elk Shoulder, Jr., and Tina (Roy) Leamons of Denver Colorado; aunts: Fern Shoulderblade, Barbara One Bear, Dolly (Max) Hiwalker, and Phoebe Spotted Elk; 24 grandkids; 6 great grandkids; numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by the extended families of Bements: Fox, Burns, Fishers, Footes, Harris, Hollowbreast, Two Bulls, Two-Twos, Shoulderblades, Robinsons, Bigheads, One Bears, Hiwalkers, Morningstar, Spang and Seminole. Our family is large, if we left anyone out, please forgive us.
A Family Wake will be 7:00 pm Wednesday, November 19, 2014, at the family home in Rabbit Town.
Rosary will take place 7:00 pm Thursday, November 20, 2014, in the chapel at the St. Labre Mission in Ashland, MT. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 am Friday, November 21, 2014, in the Soaring Eagle Gymnasium at the St. Labre Mission in Ashland, MT. Burial will follow at the St. Labre Cemetery. The family invites you to a feast in the social room at the St. Labre Mission in Ashland, MT following the burial.

I am so sorry for your loss. Although, I do not know your family personally, I would like to share an encouraging thought from the Bible. The Bible often compares death to sleep. (Psalm 13:3; John 11:11-14; Acts 7:60) A person who is fast asleep is unaware of what is happening around him. Likewise, the dead are not conscious of anything. Yet, the Bible teaches that God can awaken the dead as if from sleep and give them life again. (Job 14:13-15) For those whom God resurrects, death is not the end of everything. Almighty God has promised us everlasting life.

We were so sad to hear the news about Ike. I enjoyed visiting with him so much. I use to give him a bad time about not getting out of Ashland enough—that he needed to get to jimtown more to visit. Ike was like a big brother to me. He never let anybody mess with me and always kept a door open if I needed shelter or a place to stay. Our whole family loved him and we do the entire Bement family.
