Paul Bunyan was born to James and Sara Roundstone Blackwolf in Sheridan Wyoming, during the Sheridan Indian Day’s. Paul was raised traditional along with his siblings. Paul was raised in Lame Deer until the age of 18. In 1974 he was admitted into Warm Spring’s he stayed there for a few years. He had a big heart and big dreams. 1980 Paul moved to a Group in Ronan Montana, he stayed in Ronan for many years. He grew fond of the town of Ronan and the town grew fond of him he earned the name “The Sheriff”.
Paul Bunyan always remembered where he came from, he always asked how his family was doing, not skipping a name, he thought of his family all the time. He always thought of his niece Priscilla always asking about her.
One of Paul’s fondest memories was being a part of the singing group “The Brown Beavers”
He loved going to powwow’s, he loved speaking his native Cheyenne language. He was a proud Cheyenne, and everyone he spoke to he let them know.
In 2005 his failing heath brought him closer to home, he moved a group home called West Chester in Billings. He was always I am matanaéve’ho’e (policeman) he had a favorite HAB Tech Beverly Limpy, a adopted sister and whom he always spoke Cheyenne too.
Paul loved to pray, he would pray for his fellow housemates, he prayed for his family. He loved to sing the songs that were taught to him by his dad, he talked about his parents all the time, he missed his parents daily.
Paul enjoyed watching TV, his favorite was any show that involved Cops.
Proceeded in death his paternal grandparents Ben and Ella Blackwolf, maternal grandparents Fred and Flora Roundstone. His parents James and Sara Blackwolf his sister’s Wreatha and Florence his brothers Donlin Mcmanus, Alfred Teeth, Walter and Fredrick Blackwolf. His favorite cousin brother Clinton Birdhat. A good friend Jim Euker.
Paul is survived by his sister’s Jamie Whiteman, Beverly(Bryan) Limpy his brothers Woodrow, Oran John, Hubert(Sharon), Alan Joe(Becky), Robert(Julia).
Paul had numerous nieces and nephews. Too many to mention. Paul had adopted family all from all over. If we failed to mention your name please forgive us.
Paul had a very large family that includes the people he grew up the Blackwolf’s, Roundstone’s, Shoulderblade’s, Woodenlegs, Seminole’s, Wolfnames’s and Littlesun’s.
Paul liked the simple things in life, and like everyone else he enjoyed his food. His favorite sandwich was a mayonnaise sandwich, since his childhood. He loved to reminisce about his younger days.
We would like to thank the staff at West Chester for taking good care of our brother Paul Bunyan aka JB.

James BlackWolf…. I will miss you…I would have been at your service had I known you left us! You had the kindest heart of anyone I knew and were always patient! Something we could have all learned from you! I valued your cultural knowledge and will remember that you spoke at other’s services. I had an idea to ask your knowledge to assist me with music….I waited too late! We did not know that you had another plan! You were a good teacher while you were with us! Thank you for your teachings! Juanita Ross/RSS

I am sad to hear Paul has passed. I remember the Brown Beavers well – they came to sing at our Birney Headstart Talent Show around 1968, I think they were led by Leroy Pine then. Travel well, Paul.
