James Dean Martin, “Jim”, age 78, passed away after a short illness at Billings Clinic Hospital. He was a resident at Eagle’s Manor.
Jim was born December 9, 1939 at Holy Rosary Hospital in Miles City, Montana. He was the son of Edwin R. Martin and Irene A. Kirkpatrick.
Jim attended grade and high school in Miles City, graduating in 1958.
Jim was a carrier for the Miles City Star as a teenager. He worked at the family’s Fair Price Grocery Store, mostly as a butcher but also as an all-round worker. In 1969 he graduated from Barber School in Boise, Idaho. He worked as a barber in Miles City, then moved to work in Forsyth, having his own shop in the Howdy Hotel, where he resided. Jim was an avid bowler for several years. He also had a passion for photography, taking pictures wherever he was. He especially enjoyed taking photos of family and friends.
He attended the Forsyth Presbyterian Church for many years.
Jim donated his time on many days off giving haircuts to the elderly in Forsyth. While in Forsyth, he traveled frequently to Miles City to visit his mother at Eagle’s Manor. Later, when he also moved into the Manor, he always “looked out for Mom”.
Jim is survived by his sister Kathy (John) Beling and niece Laura (Brian) Elliott, her children Trevor and Paige all of Missoula. Also surviving is his Aunt, Idah Johnson of Forsyth and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Will always be thankful to Jim for coming to our Nursing Home in Forsyth and providing the wonderful services of a professional Barber but as a volunteer. He did the hair, the nose, and the brows for the men! He even brought a picture of the Leon Park in Miles City for me to see. Great dancing memories of that place in my youth. Just a nice man.

Jim had been a lifelong friend of mine in Miles City, having graduated in the
class of 58-a year before I graduated from CCHS. He graduated with my brother,
John, who would later become his brother-in-law. Jim will be missed by all his
friends over the years-and by my wife, Carol, and myself.

I know him at Mc Donalds, when I first met him, I know he was a special man right away, I saw him about two weeks ago, I was able to tell him how special his friendship meant to me a stranger in town, and he welcomed me with open arms and a wonderful smile, he had been to Denver, and we had a lot in common. my prayers are with this family, and with Daniel, and also with Judy, I really did care a lot about him, and will miss his greatly, my life is richer because I know such a genital kind hearted man. this family is lucky to have him, thanks for making my life mean something just by knowing him. much love. thank you Jim I will never forget you,
