James Oldbear, age 39, of Lame Deer

February 17, 1984 – March 2, 2023

James David “JD “Old Bear aged 39, passed away in Billings, Montana. James was born on February 17, 1984, to David Old Bear and Laveta (Killsnight) Old Bear. James was raised in Lame Deer by his parents. He was an enrolled member of the Northern Cheyenne Tribe. His Indian name was Ese’hohme’ehne (Rising Sun) given to him by his grandma the late Mary Atwood.
James attended Lame Deer and Busby Schools. James liked to hang out with his cousins Arlyn, Tony, Arencia, and Amber. They were all almost the same age. James was a homebody, he stayed home tending to the home. He and his cousins always acted like homies. He spent the last of his days at sober living at the Rimrock Treatment Foundation.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and babysitting for his sister’s kids, always taking care of them. His sister Davita and James got to spend the last of his days at the Rimrock Treatment Foundation together. Rosemary Elkshoulder he raised and was always worried about and taking care of her.
James is preceded in death by his mother Laveta and his sisters Andreen Parker and Donna Rowland. His Grandparents Rosemary Castro. Mary, Herbert “Waldo”, David Atwood. Gus and Annie (Long Sioux) Old Bear, Louise, Jessie, Agnes Old Bear, Effie (Paul) Beartrack. His aunties Cindy, Cecelia “Cookie” Lincoln. Elretta Parker, Gustine Old Bear. His uncles
Edward, Gus, Stephen, Loris, Bert and Fredlyn Old Bear. Raymond (Pine) Harjo. His cousins Louis, Leighton Old Bear. & Arcenia Morrison.
He is survived by father David Old Bear, sisters Davida Old Bear, Ashely Antelope. brother Bryan Antelope. His nephews Wacey “Porkchops” Elk Shoulder Jr, Noah Jefferson, his nieces Rosemary Elk Shoulder, Devine, Aspen Parker. Frandie, Felita, Frankie Bearchum. Laxona Buffalo Bull Tail Laris Old Bear
His uncles Lee (Mary) Old Bear, Emery Castro, Vincent Parker Sr, Loren (Roseline)Old Bear. His aunties Rosita, Lajuana Castro, Brenda (Eric)Timber, Elizabeth, Danetta Fisher, Teatta, Roberta, Lori Old Bear. Lydia (Eugene) Birdinground, Grandparent: Juan Castro and Perry Fighting Bear, Cousins/bros Arlyn, Anthony “Tony”, Emery, Rusty, Kyjuan Castro, Lee J, Lephi Old Bear, Isaiah Stotlter, Tayshawn Morrison, Charles, Vincent Parker Jr. Cousins/sisters Monica Chief at Night, Alison, Amber Black, Teela Atwood. Masiela Old Bear, Heather Oldbear, Ivoree, Angel Russel.
His families: Castro, Old Bear, Yellowfox, Big Back, Bighead, Whitewolf, Harris, Fightingbear, Rising Sun, Long Sioux, Yarlott, Morrison, Wilson, Hogan, Bear Cloud, Old Coyote, Big Hair, Smart Enemy, and his Rimrock Family, Kallie and Lindsey.
