Jane D. Bonine of Roundup, MT formerly of Miles City, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2019. She was born November 3, 1939 in Three Forks, MT to James and Alma Donahue. She grew up there and graduated from Three Forks High School in 1957. Jane attended MSU in Bozeman where she received her degrees in Elementary Education and Home Economics. While at MSU, she met Dick Bonine. They married on June 28, 1960 and moved to the Pine Hills area of Miles City where they started their family. Although Jane was never employed outside the home, she used her education every day in raising their thirteen children and running the home.
Jane was a 4-H leader, an active member of Sacred Heart Parish and the Liturgy committee, and a member of the Miles City Caledonian Society. She attended as many of her kids’ activities as she was able and was proud of all they accomplished. She was an artist at heart, and it showed in the birthday cakes she designed and decorated, the costumes and outfits she sewed, and the creative solutions she found to the many problems brought to her. Jane loved reading and her daily cup of tea.
She became active with Elder Hostel and Special Olympics and was named Special Olympics Family of the Year in 1994. The family moved from Miles City in 1997, lived in Thermopolis, WY, and settled in the Ryegate/Roundup, MT area in 2007. Jane experienced a stroke in 2012 which impacted her mobility for the remainder of her life. She got her fill of the “peace and quiet” she told her children she wanted when they were growing up.
Preceding her in death are her parents, brothers James and Joe, and her husband of 56 years, Dick. Jane is survived by their 13 children: Richard Jr., Martha, Phil and Suellen, Barb and Max Holcomb, Sue and Jay Henderson, Greg, Duncan and Wendy, Randall and Jennifer, Russell and Nancy, Mary, Jon and Kristina, Brian, Gary and April; her 30 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; siblings Catherine Donahue and Warren Donahue; extended family members and numerous friends.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 from4:00-6:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City followed by a Vigil Service at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, September 5, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Miles City. Rite of Committal will follow in the Calvary Cemetery.

Jane made us all feel a part of the family – I grew up with Suzanne and knew the whole clan! I have not seen Jane the past few years but heard through family how she was doing. Jane’s family has thousands of wonderful memories. Verlin and I hope to make it to the vigil on Wednesday but are unable to attend the funeral because of work.
Sr. Agatha Muggli says
Dear Martha Jane and the rest of Jane’s family, May Christ’s peace fill your hearts as you give your Mom back to God. May she receive the reward of a faithful servant to all of you who are her family as well as the servant she was to people beyond the family especially to those associated with Special Olympics. You are in my prayer, Sr. Agatha Muggli
