JoAnn Brewer, age 81, passed away on February 29th with her loving husband by her side. She was born on March 15, 1938 in Orland, California to Noel and Elizabeth Josephine Shafer and was raised in Sunnyside, Washington.
JoAnn met Kevin in Sunnyside, WA while Kevin was serving in the Army. They married and moved to Forsyth, MT to start their family. Once in Forsyth, they started ranching and never stopped. JoAnn loved the ranching life and played an active role in all areas. She was a fabulous cook and always fed the crews during brandings, cattle drives, harvest, and more. She also handled the bookkeeping and payroll and still found time to make raising her sons a priority.
Some of her pastimes were making candy and treats, bowling, traveling to Deadwood, getting her hair done on Tuesdays and visiting with friends. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren. She had a loving, but feisty personality which will be missed forever.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Kevin F. Brewer; her three sons and spouses, Kevin M. (Pier) Brewer, Steve (Janet) Brewer, and Jason (Tanya) Brewer; seven grandchildren, Mindy (Bruce) Price, Ryan Brewer, Erika Brewer, Alyssa Brewer, Amanda Brewer, and Austin Brewer; three great-grandchildren, Brianna, Meryssa, and Jacob Price.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Rosebud Healthcare Center Foundation, 406-346-2161- P.O. Box 500 Forsyth, MT 59327

I am very sorry to hear this. The entire Brewer family were great towards me when I worked for them and I loved poking fun back and forth with Jo Anne.
After many trips being sent up to the house to fix one of her lawn tractors or trimmers, Jason had made a comment of some sort to which I told him that every time I went up to the house his mother always had some pie or cake and something cold to drink and there was a fairly good chance that those machines would never run quite right again.
Lynn Tompkins says
I am so sorry to hear of Jo Anne’s passing. I met her when the N.A.P.A. store opened and we would visit at the counter. And bingo games at the fair were always an event full of laughter. A woman filled with love for her family. My prayers to all of you.

Jason and Steve and families
My heart is with you at this difficult time. I always enjoyed visits with your mother. She must hold the title for the most miles per meal delivered to the outlying posts wherever you were hungry and working. I’ve made the kraut buns several times, but have never gotten them to turn out as good as hers. She was an example of hard work and get ‘er done. Treasure the memories. That is where the healing lies.

I just wanted to send my deepest condolences to the entire Brewer Family. I’ll never forget the kindness JoAnn showed me when my mom passed away. She was that unique combination of strong, independent and kind. I have so many different memories of my childhood that include JoAnn, that one note is never enough. Some of my favorite things are popcorn balls, silver coins and her wonderful cooking. May all of you hold on to fun memories of JoAnn that make you smile.

Kevin and family, Jim and I am so sorry to hear about JoAnn. One of the memories from long ago that always makes
Jim laugh is the time JoAnn and I were riding on the tail gate of one of your pickups and Jim and Kevin were in the cab and they (I am sure it wasn’t on purpose) hit a bump and bounced JoAnn off. Oh was she mad at them. Special memories of a very special gal.

I never met Joann and I think I may have met KEVIN…BUT MY LATE JOHN ACKERMAN AND HIS WIFE MARCELLA OWNED X NUMBER ACRES …thru the old Homestead Prop era. When Marcella died I was given the land..I really loved owning the property but because of her death and relative I had to clear the title…it was expensive because all the relatives were certain that I was very wealthy…I was in debt because of lawyer fees and was then when I sold the land back to Kevin. I am quite certain that Kevin never did like me…and ever since I realy wish that I never did what I did. However, all the talk about what in the world would I do with the land…on and on…again, Kevin was sure to not like me. Now I just want to tell Kevin it was nothing personal and again I still love the property…even when the work work said that it/ the land was not worth anything. NOW ALL I WOULD LOVE TO DO IS DO BE ABLE TO VISIT THE PROPERTY AN D WALK AROUND AND PHOTOGRAPH THE SHEEP AND ANY-OTHER ANIMALS AND MAYBE EVEN GET TO RIDE A HORSE. I DO HOPE AND PRAY THAT ANYONE THERE WILL ANSWER MY REQUEST. John Hoepfner
PS. I HAVE WRITTEN A NOTE TO KEVIN AND BECAUSE MY WIFE WOULD NOT LIKE ME HAVING WRITTEN TO YOU…I AM LIVING IN THE PAST…BUT I STILL FEEL BADLY HOW I TREATD KEVIN…THE LETTER HAS ONE OF MY DAUGHTERS NAMES…SHELLEY AS A RETURN ADDRESS. THANKS FOR LISTENING..HOPE THAT I HEAR SOMETHING THROUGH SHELLEY HOEPFNER. AGAIN SINCERELY, John Hoepfner
