Joan Frady passed away at the age of 97, a month before her 98th birthday, on June 14, 2018 in the Garfield County Health Center.
Joan was born July 21, 1920 to Jim and Olive (Leibole) DeBock. She attended the University of Montana earning her Teachers Degree in 1940. She enjoyed and was a beloved teacher from 1940 – 1988. Joan and Orval Frady were married on August 31, 1946. There first years of marriage were spent on the Woody (Burgess) Ranch. After the death of her father, they purchased the Frady (DeBock) Ranch. After Orval’s death in 1976, Joan resumed teaching for several years. With the help of John and Jenny, mom was able to remain on the ranch until 2010, when she moved to the Garfield County Health Center. Mom enjoyed hiking in the hills while looking for unique shaped rocks and artifacts. She was an avid reader; who kept abreast of all current affairs. She spent her spare time working crossword puzzles, bird watching and tending her yard and flowers. Her most memorable moments were spent road tripping with her sister Eileen.
Joan often reminisced on the old country dances and her love of horses. Even as Alzheimer’s stole most of her most precious memories, she could still recall her horses names. As she became lost to herself and us, she still maintained her wonderful personality. She was always treated with respect and compassion by all the staff of the health center allowing her to maintain her dignity. In memory of a very special lady, take the time no matter how hurried and busy you are to be patient, understanding and kind to those less fortunate. We remember their love when they can no longer remember.
Joan is survived by her three children: Patricia (Bill) Perkins of Miles City, MT; Deanna (Terance) Murnion of Jordan, MT and John (Jenny) Frady of the Frady Ranch – Jordan, MT; eight grandchildren: Mark Perkins, Sasha Perkins, Keely Perkins and Kayla Perkins; Lori Ryan and L’Dene (Scott) McAvoy; Belinda (Don) Higbee and Rae Ann (Eric)Losing; a brother Jim (Evie) DeBock of Wyoming and sister-in-law Iva Jean (Frady) Hagaman of Washington; sixteen great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister Eileen Thomas, Kathleen (Billy) and brother-in-law Hoolie Edwards; brother and sister-in-law Richard and Mavis (Burgess) Frady; brother-in-law Dave (Iva) Hagaman and grandson Luke Murnion.
