“Don’t cry, dry your eyes and look up into the sky and say Goodbye.” Judith Rose Wooden Legs, Evena’e “Buffalo Rolling”, age 64 of Lame Deer, was called home to be with our lord on September 28, 2014 at the Advanced Care Hospital in Billings Montana. She was born on March 5, 1950 in Birney, Montana to Henry and Alice (Big Foot) Wolf Black. They had eight children: Audrey, Warren, Violet, Linda, Edna, Sam, Dallas, and Judith.
Judith graduated from St Labre Indian School and went on to Bible College in Phoenix, AZ. She received her Associates Degree at the Chief Dull Knife College in Lame Deer. She was also a social worker for the IV-E Foster Care Program and she belonged to the Chief Society.
She married Raymond Limpy and had one son, Roby Limpy, they later divorced. Then Judith married John Joseph Wooden Legs on Feb. 13, 1980, and to this union two daughters where born, Shawna Jo and Josette Rose Wooden Legs.
Judith loved family more then life itself. She would brighten the room no matter where she went. Strong, loving and full of life, Judith had her special angels. Josiah Ormata Crispin would ride his horse down to his grandmother’s house to check on her. Kira Rose ShotGunn enjoyed her grandmother’s storytelling and reading time together. She loved her sister Audrey very much, they could spend hours shopping in a store and come out only buying one thing or sometimes nothing at all. Sisters are beloved angels whom God sent to be beside us through thick and thin. She looked forward to Denver March Pow-wow every year. She loved movies and loved reading her bible and telling people about God.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Alice Wolf Black; Her siblings Violet Wolf Black, Linda White Dirt, Sam Big Foot, Dallas Wolf Black, and Edna Vallie.
Judith is survived by her daughter Shawna Jo ( Jessie Shotgunn) Wooden Legs and her daughter Kira Rose Shotgunn and one on the way; her daughter Josette Rose (Hunter Barrus) Wooden Legs; her son Roby Limpy and his children Roby Limpy Jr. and Josette Rose Limpy; her ex-husband John Joseph Wooden Legs; Her sister Audrey (Edwin) Whiteman; her brother Warren (Lydia) Wolf Black; her other grand-children the American Horse children: Dornie, Dameka, Darren, Delores, Deeka, Josiah Crispin, Donavin and Ace Vallie; her nieces and nephews: Teeka American Horse, Edwin Whiteman Jr., Meska Whiteman, Darren, Judith (who is named after her), Eldin, Ron Whiteman, Corina, Daniel, Ashley, Henretta, Kim, Hershely, Kathy, Chuck Jr., David, Armin Vallie, Ralph Brown, Eli Wolf Black, Sam Wolf Black, Beth Big Foot, Bonita Big Foot, Sam Big Foot, Ron Bigback Jr (son) Kathy Foote (sister) the Gardner Family, Elkshoulder family, and White Dirt Family. I am so sorry for the loss of judy…I worked with her during our tenure as Social Workers for the IV-E foster care program…she was a really really nice person, who shared with me a lot of her wisdom and knowledge that I carry on and share with whomever. I will miss our small talks at the casino when i would run into her there, and giving her rides home from there…I was very proud when she finished her bachelors degree…May the Creator Bless you and keep you during your time of grief.
Roberta B. & Cecelia Wolfblack Varela says
Our prayers are with you all….I remember when we would go visit her…One memory in particular is when I fixed her hair for her (she cut it herself).;…we would sit and laugh about anything and everything….Aunt Judy always had that Wolfblack sense of humor…she will be greatly missed.

My sincere condolences to the family of Linda Ann Ellis White – May you find comfort in your loving memories, beautiful pictures and in recalling her many talents. It was not the Creator’s purpose that mankind suffer and die (Romans 5:12). In the Bible we are promised the resurrection of dear family members and friends that we have lost (John 5:28, 29). I hope you are comforted by Bible promises of a hopeful future (John 17:3).

This is a belated post, but I just read of Judy’s passing and was somewhat sadden at this news. My condolences to the family of one of the sweetest Northern Cheyenne girls I was acquainted with in the late 60’s. She truly was a treasure of the tribe and I feel fortunate that I was able to know her and hopefully be considered as one of her friends. I have nothing but wonderful memories of her, and her brother Sammy. They were just teenagers at the time, but they were booth special in every way. Since leaving Lame Deer in the late 60’s, their memory along with many of the other young people at the time has never faded from my mind. Shawna & Josette, you had a wonderful woman to call mother. I know she is still watching over you and loves you dearly. Honor her by doing much good in this world.
