Julie Marie Carroll Howie passed away on July 29, 2015 at the Rosebud Healthcare Center.
Mom was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 26, 1936. She was adopted along with her brother James by Edward and Jean Carroll. Mom grew up in Riverside, California and graduated from Poly High School. Her family included many family members that were located in Alexandria, Minnesota and she spent summers there. She met Roger Howie at a dance in Alexandria and they were married on January 13, 1955. They celebrated their 60th anniversary this past January. They have two children, Nancy and James (Jim) and a stepson, Bill. They spent many years living in Minnesota and moved to Montana in 1976. They moved from Broadus to Billings to Boyd to Laurel and settled in Forsyth.
Mom was the ultimate homemaker. The house was spotless, lunch was at noon, and family dinner was always at 6:00 pm. Mom never missed any activities we were ever involved in. She loved to cook, sew and knit. She was an accomplished seamstress and sewed custom made drapes for many years. When she was younger, she would often be in her chair knitting or there were knitting needles with a project nearby. She was a wonderful wife and mother and loved having her grandchildren with her. Mom loved animals and was especially close to her little black cocker spaniel, Maggie.
Mom was preceded in death by her father, Edward Carroll; her mother, Jean Carroll; and her brother, James Carroll. She is survived by her husband, Roger Howie of Forsyth; her daughter Nancy (Kim) Nile of Forsyth; her son, Jim (Jackie) Howie of Laurel; her grandchildren, Cole Nile (Kristi Zentz); Kane (Krista) Nile; Jesse Nile; Charlee Howie (Brian Christiansen); Carrie (Chris) Miller; and four great grandchildren; Landon, Nickia, Grey, Adrick, Catera, and Braelynn.
There will be a small service on Monday, August 3, 2015 at Stevenson and Sons. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
