Lillian Louise (Duncan) Wohlgenant passed away peacefully at Friendship Villa on March 6, 2015. Lillian, 87, was surrounded by family at the time of her death. Lillian was born in Wichita Falls, Texas on March 16, 1927 to Edward and Lillian (Mousley) Duncan. She was the only daughter in her family and had two older and one younger brother.
Lillian met her future husband, Joseph Wohlgenant (who was in the Army Air Corps), at a USO dance when she was still in high school. She wrote: “After he got over the shock of [me] being only 16, he asked me to be engaged to him while he was overseas. My parents consented [for us to be married] til [sic] I graduated from high school.” Joseph and Lillian Wohlgenant were married on August 4, 1944 and moved to Montana—10 miles northeast of Miles City—where they ranched until Joe’s retirement in 1969, when they moved to Miles City. Lillian worked in the Custer County Court House Clerk and Recorder’s Office. She was later appointed as Election Administrator and remained in that job until her retirement in 1989. Lillian later was involved in volunteer work at Holy Rosary Healthcare and with various charities in the community. She also was a lifetime donor of blood to the American Red Cross.
Lillian was well known in the Miles City community. She was a member of a number of service clubs, including the BPOE of Women’s Auxiliary and The Caledonian Society of Miles City. She was immensely proud of her Scottish ancestry and her Texas heritage. If you drove by her house, you would see a bronze Texas star prominently displayed near her front door.
Lillian was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Wohlgenant, whom she had been married to for 57 years. She was also preceded in death by all three of her brothers, Eddie, Jerry, and Marvin. Lillian is survived by her three children and spouses: Duncan and Deborah Wohlgenant of Miles City, Montana; Michael and Peggy Wohlgenant of Holly Springs, North Carolina; and LeeAnn and Charlie Carranco of Billings, Montana. Lillian has seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a local animal rescue, or a charity of one’s choice.

I can’t say there was ever a time when I had an opportunity to visit with Lillian that she didn’t make me smile. She was such an energetic lady and a joy to be around. I enjoyed her banter with her friend Colleen. I will miss seeing her. May time and the love of the Lord ease the ache in your hearts while you grieve, and your memories stay as clear as if they were yesterday. Blessings.
