On the evening of January 11, 2018 Marceline passed away peacefully of natural causes at the nursing home at Holy Rosary Hospital in Miles City, MT. Marceline was 89 years old.
Marceline was born on September 2, 1928 in Great Falls, MT. She was the third child and first daughter of Hazel (Buck) Dorr and Everest Dorr.
Marceline grew up on the family farm at Eden, MT attending rural schools. She boarded in Great Falls for high school, graduating from Great Falls High School in 1947.
While in Great Falls, Marceline met the love of her life, James A. Howard and the two were married on June 21, 1947 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
In 1952 Marceline and Jim moved to the Bay area of California with their daughter Leona. Meeting many new friends and seeing relatives. They lived there until 1959 when they moved back to Great Falls.
Marceline worked at various retail outlets through the years and as a housekeeper in OB/GYN at the Deaconess Hospital in Great Falls, MT. She then spent 22 years working as a special needs tech on buses for the Great Falls School District, meeting her adoptive daughter, Lori Stewart while working there.
In 2003 Marceline and Jim moved to Miles City to be closer to their daughter Leona and her husband Larry Dann. They lived in “the little house on the prairie” two doors down the street until Jim’s passing in 2007. Marceline lived there after Jim’s passing until 2017 when failing health necessitated her moving into assisted living.
Marceline enjoyed writing letters to family and friends, having many pen pals through the years. She also enjoyed crocheting; making many afghans, doilies and other items that she gave as gifts. She and Jim also made many rosaries that were given to students at confirmation and on the occasion of first communion.
Marceline volunteered at the Sacred Heart Parish Center helping fold bulletins and other tasks for a few years. She contributed to many organizations including the DAV and the Society of the little flower.
Marceline was preceded in death by her parents Hazel and Everest Dorr; two brothers, Vernon and Winston Dorr, a sister Velma Kruse, her husband James A. Howard and a special friend Don Hall.
Marceline is survived by her daughter Leona (Larry) Dann of Miles City, a adoptive daughter Lori Stewart of Great Falls, one brother, Terry (Fran) Dorr of Columbia Falls; three sisters, Lavern Knowles of Great Falls, Doreen (Elden) Rammel of Seely Lake and Lila (Butch) Jones of Niehart. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Evelyn Dann of Batavia, NY and Sean (Amy Ostwald) Dann of Miles City, three great grandchildren, two great -great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 18, 2017 at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home with a Vigil and Rosary at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Miles City on Friday, January 19, 2018, followed by a reception. Marceline will be cremated and interment will take place at a later date at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Great Falls beside her husband Jim.

Marceline was, by far, one of my very favorite customers when I worked at Glader Electric. She made a point to catch me “before you waste a stamp my dear” and would even call to apologize that she was sending Leona to make her payment because, “I’m just not up to it today dear, but I’ll miss seeing you this month!!” I enjoyed when she had a moment to sit at the table & visit. She was a treasure! My sincere condolences to your family.
