Mary Ann Whistling Elk, Voestaa’e (White Buffalo Calf Woman), was called home on September 14, 2014. She was born February 3, 1952 in Lame Deer, Montana the daughter of June Ant-Whistling Elk and Alfred Whistling Elk Sr.
Mary Ann grew up in Lame Deer, Montana on the Northern Cheyenne Reservation. She married Brian Chestnut, they later divorced, and then married Myles Tall Bull Sr.
As a child she loved horseback riding, and spending time with family and friends. Mary Ann was a loving and caring daughter, mother, sister, aunt, cousin, grandmother to her family, who loved to do puzzles, playing cards, solving crossword puzzles, cruising around town, or walking the streets of Lame Deer. Mary Ann loved listening to 50’s & 60’s music hits and 2Pac. She had a great sense of humor, loved making friends and making them laugh. She always tried to help out family and friends as much as she could, especially her grandchildren. Her family was her greatest achievement and she loved them very dearly. She enjoyed watching Lifetime and movies like Dallas, and her laugh was very contagious.

My sincere condolences to the family of Mary Ann Whistling Elk – I am sorry to hear of your loss. It was never the Creator’s purpose for mankind to suffer (Romans 5:12). In the Bible we are promised a time when no one will say “I am sick” (Isaiah 33:24). I hope you are comforted by the “God of all comfort” who promises to comfort us (2 Corinthians 1:3, 4). I hope you find peace in many Bible promises (John 17:3).
