Mildred went to be in Don’s arms again on February 8, 2023. She was surrounded by the love of her family and is no longer in pain.
Mildred was born October 6, 1931 in Illinois. She was the daughter of Ray and Edith Pearson. Her father worked for Milwaukee Railroad and relocated the family in many areas of the United States throughout his career, eventually settling in Cohagen Montana, where Mildred attended Cohagen High School. She met Don around that time, fell in love and married in 1949. In 1955 they moved to the ranch in Brusett. Throughout the years, Mildred helped on the ranch, cooking, feeding the crew, driving combine, moving cattle, and raising bum lambs for extra spending money! She and Don loved to travel, and loved their motorhome traveling here and there.
She was a devoted member of the Jordan Presbyterian church, representing the Jordan church at Presbytery.
Her backyard was the envy of many, and she thoroughly enjoyed picking and laying rock, mixing concrete by hand in the wheelbarrow, building wooden walkways and little bridges, building flower beds, etc., just making her yard shine with pride. We all loved it and enjoyed it. She loved entertaining family and friends hosting many parties.
Mildred was preceded in death by her husband Don, parents, brothers Kenneth Pearson, Edward Pearson, Robert Pearson and sister Juanita Senger. She is survived by daughter Sharon West of Spokane, WA, sons Sterling West of Miles City, MT, Myron (Darlene) West of Great Falls, MT, Dennis (Jody) West Miles City, MT; grandchildren Michael (Pam) West of Black Hawk, SD, Misty West of Belle Fourche, SD and Caleb Heggemeier of Spokane, WA; great grandchildren Dylan and Hayley, sister-in-law Jean Pearson and several nieces and nephews.
We have lost a very special person, but are grateful for the happy, loving times together. She will be deeply missed.

We really enjoyed Mildred since my mom moved to town. They sure enjoyed their their ladies nites at the Hell Creek with Diana and Melba. They were always gracious letting me join when in town.
In my youth I stayed many nights at their home. One night at supper Mildred asked how was the meal she had prepared. I replied it was okay but the mashed potatoes were lumpy! She and I never forgot and we had a good laugh a couple years ago. RIP Mildred.

My sympathy to Mrs. West’s family. Having grown up in the Presbuterian church, my parents preferred that I refer to her as Mrs. West, although she told me to call her Mildred for many years. She was always very nice to me and I thought she was so pretty with that beautiful smile and twinkly eyes. And she was always dressed “to the nines”. But even in the yard or at the lake, she looked great and seemed happy always. Mildred will surely be missed by many in the community. You’re all in my thoughts and prayers.

I have a picture of Mildred and Don sitting in their church pew, in the warmth of the sun streaming in and the glow of their love for each other. That will always be my favorite memory of them. My next favorite was of Mildred in her pew Christmas Eve surrounded by her loving family. She was so proud to have you all there with her. Mildred was always welcoming, kind and interested in my life. I appreciate that. Rest easy, my friend.

Sharon, Dennis, Myron & Sterling…Your mom was a special woman whose love of life was shared with everyone she met. She was a gracious hostess…whether fixing meals in her home or for folks rounding up cattle. Your Mom and Dad were a team…deeply devoted to each other.
Many memories are in my mind and Mildred and Don are among the best. Thank you, dear lady, for your friendship and loyal service to your church and family. It was a pleasure to be your pastor for a short while 50 years ago. Well done, good and faithful Servant…enter into the Joy of your Lord!

I’m so sad to hear about Mildred’s passing. She and Don were a big part of my childhood – my parents, Bill and Avis Wallick, spent many evenings having dinner and drinks with them at “The Hole In the Wall” and other restaurants in Miles City. These evenings always began with Don and Mildred sitting patiently in our living room, having a cocktail as my parents got ready to go out. I remember how kind Don and Mildred were to me – once I had a macrame project to do for school (I was terrible at crafts) and Mildred helped me finish it and made it fun! Don always made time to talk to me, understanding my introverted nature, making me feel comfortable. My very private, particular father truly trusted and respected Don and Mildred. He saw the genuine, honest, down to earth people they were and close couple’s friendship was born. I am certain that Don, Bill and Avis welcomed Mildred with open arms, a fresh cocktail and dinner reservations at heaven’s best restaurant! My prayers go out to all Mildred’s family and friends, there is nothing more difficult in life than losing a loved one. Mildred West left our world brighter for all, filled with her love, laughter and kindness. She was an incredible woman.
