Myrtle Edna Beartusk (Ma’evéhpotá’e “Red Leaf Woman”) was called home in the early morning hours on December 28th, 2014 surrounded by family.
She was born on August 3, 1962 to Jerome “Jiggs” Beartusk and Nellie Tallbull Beartusk in Crow Agency, MT.
Myrtle graduated from St. Labre Catholic Indian School. She worked as a teacher’s aide at both Lame Deer Elementary and Northern Cheyenne Head Start. She loved working with children, affecting many lives in a positive way. She was also known as “Teacher Myrtle.”
Myrtle worked at the Ashland Mercantile and T&R Trading in Ashland, MT.
Her hobbies included riding horses with her husband Robbie, and she could often be found bustin’ a move to all types of music. She could brighten your day with her bubbly personality and infectious smile. She was known for the infamous “knob,” always teasing and laughing, having many sayings such as “Boxie-Dukesey” and “Talking about you right in front of your back.”
Myrtle is survived by her spouse, Rob Bement; five children: LaShawna (Eddie) Beartusk-Ramirez, Desirae Cady, Jeffery Fozzard, Shawntá Flatness-Randall, and Tyson Flatness; three grandchildren: Kairell, Keenan, and Kaiden Beartusk-Ramirez as well as one unborn granddaughter on the way; her brothers and sisters include: Harlan (Barbara) Tallbull, Althea Foote, Lucinda (Michael) Burns, Jermaine, Jeromena and Jeri Beartusk, Kenny (Florene) Beartusk, Marvin (Carla) Beartusk, Darlene (Mike) Hamilton, Jeannie Beartusk, Larry (Marcie) Beartusk, Carolyn (Jason) Whiteman, Jimmy Selage, and Marcella Hart; and one adopted brother, Leo Conner. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and close friends, of which there are too many to list.
Myrtle is preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, sisters Lillian Tallbull Ayres and Bernadette Beartusk, and brother-in-law, Clifford Foote.
Her extended families include: Beartusk, Tallbull, Braided Hair, Whitedirts, Eastmans, Whistling Elks, and LaFranier.
We have a large family and Myrtle touched many lives, so please accept our apologies if we left anyone out.
A Wake Service will be held at 7:00 pm, Tuesday December 30, 2014 at the St. Labre Mission in Ashland, MT. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday December 31, 2014 at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Parish in Lame Deer, MT. A graveside service will be held following the funeral at the Tallbull family cemetery in Muddy Creek. Everyone is invited to a feast at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Parish after the burial.

Condolences, Hugs & Prayers to her children, siblings and entire family! I was remembering the time I was on the PPC for Headstart in ’97-’98 and while she was working there, we went on a training in Denver. Drove and laughed all the way down, and on our breaks. Myrtle & I met up with a fellow tribal member who lived in Denver and took us out sight-seeing the one night, had much fun during that trip. I’ll cherish that time with her. She was always gitty, silly and loved to have fun! She loved her kids and family. May you rest in peace Myrtle!

You will be so heartily missed. You were a wonderful student in the 7th and 8th grade. And I’d been so blessed and heart touched having you and Bernadette in my classes and my life. All the Beartusk family has mentioned a lot to me over the years and Myrtle blessed so many lives during her life. Thank you for the special memories and lifetime of friendship, love, thoughtfulness and care.
You’ll be missed wholeheartedly. We’ll all share your families grief yet gladness of having you in all our lives. Heaven all gives us the hope and promised to be with you again… God bless you. We all loved you and appreciate you being with us.
