Nellie was born on April 10, 1950 in Miles City, Montana to Charley and Nellie Grant. She was raised in Broadus, Montana and attended school in Broadus. Nellie was an avid sports booster and really enjoyed watching her grandchildren play. She also liked to bowl, play softball, do jigsaw puzzles and play “Wahoo”. She was known to many, many people as nana.

Nellie is survived by her husband Ken Johnstone, daughter Cindy Buckner, granddaughters: Chrystal Olson, Rachel Buckner and Victoria Buckner; grandsons: David Olson, Leon Olson and Christopher Buckner; three great grandchildren: Ashton and Blake Powell and Amyiah Rossiter; one sister, Marie Farrar and two brothers: Cliff Grant and Bill Grant. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers: James, Willard and Gene Grant, two sisters: Kay Ostrum and Esther Sandine; and an infant son Shelby.

Crystal, Ken, and all the rest of the family,
Broadus won’t be the same without Nana. One of the things that I enjoyed the most about her was how proud and supportive she was not only of her own family and grandkids but of all of your friends as well. She genuinely made many of us feel important when we saw her in the store or at games.
I know this will be one of the hardest times for you all, lean on the community who loved her too.

My sincere condolences to the family of Nellie Mae Johnstone – I am sorry to hear of your loss. It was never the Creator’s purpose for mankind to suffer (Romans 5:12). In the Bible we are promised a time when no one will say “I am sick” (Isaiah 33:24). I hope you are comforted by the “God of all comfort” who promises to comfort us (2 Corinthians 1:3, 4). I hope you find peace in many Bible promises (John 17:3).
