Patricia Kay Peterson Thorley, 67, passed away on January 25th of respiratory complications following a one-month struggle with pneumonia. At her death she was surrounded by her loving family and husband, Evan.
Patricia was born in Kemmerer, Wyoming, on March 12, 1945, and was the second of three daughters born to Kendall R. and Violet C. Peterson. She spent all of her childhood years in Kemmerer, attending grade school in nearby Diamondville. She graduated with honors (salutatorian) from Kemmerer High School in May of 1963. She attended Utah State University in Logan, Utah, as a scholarship student and majored in Elementary Education. She was an excellent student and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and the Spurs service organization. She had a beautiful singing voice and was selected as a member of the USU Madrigal Singers. While at USU, she met her husband, Evan A. Thorley, and they were married on June 21, 1968, in the Logan Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her husband’s career as a military officer, first in the USAF and again later in the U.S. Navy, resulted in frequent moves and each of their four daughters was born in a different city: Tana Kay (Whicker) was born in San Angelo, TX, Brooke Ann (Knight) was born in Annapolis, MD, Kellie Nicole (Leonard) was born in Denver, CO, and Jaime Lyn (Richwine) was born in Lander, WY. Upon her husband’s retirement, Patricia and Evan moved to Miles City, MT to be near two of their daughters (Tana and Jaime) and their grandchildren living there. Soon after their move to Miles City, the Thorleys served a one year mission for their church and worked with the Church’s education system (CES) overseeing programs for high school and college age religious instruction.
Patricia was a doting wife and mother. She dearly loved her family and especially her grandchildren, which numbered 20 at the time of her death. Throughout her lifetime she was very active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) and served in many capacities. She especially loved serving as the chorister or pianist for the youngest members of the Church. At the time of her death, she was serving as chorister for the Primary children of the Miles City Ward.
Patricia was noted for her home decoration skills, her musical talents, and her kind and loving manner. She brightened the life of everyone she met. She will be dearly missed by her family, but her family is buoyed up by knowing they will see and associate with her again. She has returned to her Father in Heaven and has rejoined her loving parents and family and friends who have preceded her in death.
She is survived by the following: husband Evan of Miles City, MT, daughter Tana and her husband Curtis of Miles City, MT, daughter Brooke and her husband Sam of Boulder, CO, daughter Kellie and her husband Shawn of Ashburn, VA, daughter Jaime and her husband Jay of Miles City, MT, by her sister Kathleen and her husband Dent of South Ogden, UT, sister Ann and her husband Larry of Bakersfield, CA, her 20 grandchildren, and by many cousins, aunts and uncles scattered throughout the U.S.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 31st starting at 11:00 a.m. at the Miles City Ward of the LDS Church, 825 S. Moorehead Ave. Viewings and family visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home, 1717 Main St, Miles City, and again just prior to the funeral on Thursday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Miles City LDS Chapel. Interment will immediately follow the funeral and Patricia will be buried in nearby Custer County Cemetery. Following the interment, a luncheon at the Miles City LDS Chapel will be provided for family and out of town friends. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting: www.stevensonandsons.com.
The family wishes to thank all those who provided such loving and dedicated care at the Holy Rosary Hospital in Miles City and then at the Billings Clinic Hospital in Billings, MT. They also wish to thank all who have expressed their condolences and love upon the death of our beloved wife, mother, and sister, Patricia.

Tina Glazebrook says
Dear Brother Thorley,
ALthough I never got the chance to meet your wife, I did have the great fortune of meeting Tana and Curtis and Jaime and Jay and all the grandchildren. I know from conversations with them all that your wife was a loving generous and loved woman. I know that you will see her again soon. She was an extremely lovely looking woman and will make Heaven all that much more beautiful for her being there. Although the sadness is there now the rejoice will be there when you are all together again in Heaven Fathers presence. May your love carry you through this difficult time and may you and your daughters remember the wonderful woman that was always ready to serve, not just the church but her family as well. May God bless you all and comfort from the Holy Ghost pour over you all.

Evan and Tana, My heart goes out to you at this time of devastating loss. You are two of the sweetest and most tender-hearted people I have had the pleasure to associate with. I have felt similar loss and know the pain of a heart that feels like a knife has been thrust through it. When I suffered that I could not endure another moment of that pain, I turned to my Heavenly Father and begged him to mercifully remove the unrelenting ache. Miraculously, He indeed made my “burden feel light” and lifted the pain to a bearable level. I am so thankful that He has such great love for us that He would reach to lift us up in times of sorrow such as this. I pray that you will feel His tender mercies as you travel through this trevail, that He will make your burden light and that you will feel joy once again in the light of good that remains in the world. Sincerely, Sister Elaine Logan
