Pearl Shumway, 95, of Miles City died peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on Saturday, January 23. Pearl was born to William and Hettie Jones on September 26, 1919. Pearl was one of eleven children. The family lived in Washington State. Pearl met and married George H. Shumway on May 14, 1938. They moved to Wolf Point, Montana where they raised twelve children. Pearl and George enjoyed 47 years together before George’s death in 1983.
Pearl lived in Wolf Point for a number of years before relocating to Miles City to be closer to some of her children. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Golden Girls and Widow’s Club and American Legion while in Wolf Point. Pearl worked for a number of years following her husband’s retirement and death, most recently at St. Vincent de Paul in Miles City.
Pearl was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brothers and sisters, and three sons, Charles, Lloyd and George and a daughter in law, Louella. Pearl is survived by nine of her children: Sharon Atkins, Donna (Ken) Kellum, Bob (Linda) Shumway, Bill (Rhonda) Shumway, Ann (Marty) Hagemeister, Lacey (Robert) Cortez, Joy (Joe) Welch, Scott (Anna) Shumway, and Jeff (Yvonne) Shumway. She is also survived by two daughters in law, Georgina Shumway and Joyce Shumway and her brother in law, Galen Gentry. Pearl’s family also includes numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren.
Pearl asked that no services be held and cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be given to the Holy Rosary Hospice program in her name.

Pearl was my favorite resident at Anderson Apartments when I lived there. I am so sorry to hear of her passing. She was a great lady and will be missed by a lot of people.
