THANK YOU
The family of Pete Lindley thanks all of you who expressed condolences by sending a card, making a phone call, posting on social media, or speaking to us in person. We also greatly appreciate the gifts, the food, the beautiful flowers, and the monetary donations made in Pete’s name.
Special thanks to Chris, Jenny, Kaci, Sabrina, and Ashley at Cottonwood Care for providing a loving home for Pete in his last couple of years, to Holy Rosary Hospice Care for being there every step of the way in Pete’s last months and days, and to Brooke and Vanessa at Stevenson & Sons for their excellent service and kindness.
Lastly, we wish to honor and thank Pete’s “other family” at Valley Community Church. Pastor Jeff Cahill conducted a wonderful memorial service for his friend of more than 15 years, and church members provided a great lunch.
It is comforting to know what a huge impact Pete had on so many people’s lives.
Peter Arnold Lindley died on December 1, 2021 in Miles City, MT. He was born on May 11, 1929 in Woolwich, London, England, to Arnold and Winifred Lindley. The family moved to South Africa when Pete was 6 and he lived there until he was 19. During these years, he developed a keen interest in higher mathematics and engineering, helping his father build water turbines and power generators. He also learned to speak Afrikaans.
Once the family moved back to England, Pete completed his degree in mechanical engineering at the Royal College of London. After an apprenticeship, he went to work for General Electric Company in England. He was part of a team that was recruited to design the first nuclear power plant built in England.
In 1949 Pete met Helen, his wife of almost 59 years, at a tennis club. They married in 1953 and had three children: Jean, Claire, and David. The family lived in England until 1967, when they immigrated to the United States and settled in Pennsylvania. Pete adapted well to life in the USA and became a citizen in 1975. He made family time a priority and each summer the family traveled the country, camping in national parks and other landmarks across the US.
Pete encountered some very difficult times in the late 1970s, which led him to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as his savior a few years later. He endeavored to serve Him through the rest of his days, becoming a true example of a loving, caring, and selfless Christian. Pete touched many lives with his steadfast and unwavering faith.
Pete is survived by two daughters, Jean Lindley (Jack McNamee) of Miles City, MT and Claire Lindley (Doug Skrobel) of Littleton, CO, six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, one great great grandson, and five nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Helen, his son David, his sister Mary Sherwen, and his parents.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to Valley Community Church, 1004 N Sewell Ave, Miles City, MT 59301.

What a special man to have as a neighbor. I remember how devoted he was to his wife. He told me that when she went to England without him one time he missed her so much, but when she died he didn’t miss her because he knew he would be with her soon. So sorry Jean and girls.

Always willing to help, walking across the street with his gloves ready. So sorry Jean and girls.

To Pete’s Family
We are so very sorry to hear of Pete’s passing. May God wrap the entire family in his arms and give you comfort. Pete was such a good friend to Mom at Cottonwood. We had many wonderful visits with him. He was such a friendly and warm person. He will certainly be missed. We are glad to know he is at peace in heaven. Heaven gained a wonderful soul!

Pete Lindley was a class act ! His intelligence was obvious to us every time we visited with him, but just as impressive was his adaptability. Eastern Montana is a huge departure from his other homes (namely, England) but he settled in with Helen, they found their niche, and they contributed to our community. Our thoughts go out to Jean and his family, because we know he’ll be missed.
