A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.
On the evening of August 24, 2023, Ramona passed away peacefully at her home. Ramona was cared for and attended to by her son Burgess Miles and Danny Maag with the assistance and special Thank You to Kelly Tarr and Hospice Nurses.
Ramona Della Miles (Burt) was born in the town of Miles City in Custer County, Montana on January 19, 1930. She was one of seven girls born to Paul and Martha (Hagman) Burt.
Ramona attended schools in Miles City, Montana and was a telephone operator until she married Charles W. Miles in Mansfield, Louisiana on April 23, 1950. At the close of her time as a Navy wife, stationed in the south, she and Charles moved back to the WL family ranch. Three children were born to this union, a daughter Martha Miles, two sons Charles W. Miles III and Burgess Miles.
She spent her time at the ranch raising her children, cooking meals for the hired men and crews. She was well known for the meals she made for the holidays, brandings and community events, preparing months in advance, out-doing herself to go above and beyond. Ramona was a classy lady. From the kitchen to a short notice trip to town with Charles, she was always well put together.
In later years, she spent time with her family. She loved reminiscing of family heritage and delighted in sharing stories “pep talk number….”. Some of her fondest time was in the company of her daughter Martha and Danny Maag, wherever they might be. It provided her with an opportunity to return to ranch life, helping with daily activities and being able to observe and admire the progress on their projects.
Ramona was proceeded in death by her husband Charles W. Miles, daughter Martha Miles, son Charles W. Miles III, grandson Charles W. Miles IV “Little Charlie”.
She is survived by her son Burgess Miles, Danny Maag, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

I worked on the WL Ranch, in the summers from 1957 to 1964. I also remember the great brandings and the great food she would prepare. I saw Ramona a few times around Mile City and stopped to visit when I was working down in that area. I have read the comments from other people describing her as a class act . She was all that and more. I can’t express how sad it makes me feel to know that she has passed. I would like to express my condolences to the Miles family..

Burgey and Danny, you were blessings to Ramona. She was a classy lady. I only saw her hair down once and was so amazed at how long it was. She was fun to listen to; her voice was unique. Branding time was always so much fun at the Miles’ and I didn’t even mind getting up in the middle of the night so we could start gathering at the break of dawn. Ramona’s meals always topped off the day.
