On the afternoon of December 21st, 2023, Rebecca “Becky” Carey Murnion passed away in a tragic vehicle accident in Jordan, MT, at the age of sixty.
Becky was born to Mencel and Evie Carey on September 8th, 1963, in Miles City, MT. She lived on the family farm in Kinsey, MT, until 1969 when the family moved to Miles City, MT. There, Becky attended grade school, middle school, and Custer County High School, graduating in 1981. At a young age, Becky learned the value of hard work. She worked during and after high school for several restaurants, until finding a career she truly loved: road construction as a heavy equipment operator. Noted for her work ethic and talent as an operator, Becky worked throughout the state of Montana for several road construction companies.
In 1984, Becky gave birth to her son, Logan Wayne. Together, they lived in Lolo, MT, where Becky was based and worked for JTL Construction. However, after working many years on the road, Becky moved back to Miles City then to Bismarck, ND, and started working again in the service industry to have a more established homelife.
As a native Miles City citizen, Becky would travel home every year in May to attend the Famous Bucking Horse Sale. There, on a Saturday night, she met the “cowboy” of her life, Dixon Murnion. On August 6th of 2011, they married in Miles City and Becky once again found a working lifestyle she loved – ranching and being close to animals on Dixon’s ranch in Sand Springs, MT. Living in the country gave Becky great pride. She treasured learning so much from Dixon about ranch life, constantly quizzing him with questions and usually getting the answer, “Good Enuf!” Becky loved being out in the fresh air with a dog, sometimes working into the night, clipping fence. She cherished the moments riding with Dixon on her favorite horse, Cindy. All animals were adored by Becky – cats, dogs, horses and cows alike – and Becky gave unique names to most: Brownie Bumps, Cucumber, Pickles, Cheeto, Tubes, Checkoff Suzie, etc. With brandings and processing, came Becky’s popular “Ground Roast Sandwiches” and close times with her brother-in-law, Zane, nephews, and other family and friends. Time away from the ranch entailed hosting her fun-filled Kentucky Derby Hat-Decorating Parties and Bracket Boards, her Hot Springs trips with Sister-in-law Jenny and friends, family visits in Red Lodge, and gathering with friends for conversation at the local establishments. Although sometimes being considered a “stubborn” Norwegian, Becky is known for her “kind heart” that non-judgmentally accepted everyone as a friend especially those that needed a friend the most.
Becky is survived by: her husband, Dixon Murnion; son, Logan (Sally) Carey; siblings, Clint Wildman of Billings, Dallas (Linda) Wildman of Miles City, Cindy Muggli Smith of Red Lodge, Stena (Jim) Bushnell of Red Lodge, Mencella (Kelly) Carlson of Miles City; many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and their spouses; plus, “lots” of nieces and nephews.
Becky was preceded in death by: her parents, Mencel and Evie Carey; brother, Tim Wildman; In-laws, Coleman and Snooks Murnion; Brother-in-law, Charles Murnion; and Becky’s favorite dogs Butchie Butch, TownDog, Chapo, and Milton; and kitty, Bandit.
All friends and families are welcome to attend Becky’s graveside service at Pioneer Cemetery in Jordan, MT, on Saturday, January 6th, 2023 at 11:00 am. Immediately following will be an informal Celebration of Life at Jordan VFW for everyone to come together for food and memories. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting: www.stevensonandsons.com.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Rebecca Murnion can be made to your local, favorite youth agricultural program i.e. FFA, 4-H, etc.

Stena, Cindy, Clint, Mencella, Dallas & families. My heart hurts. My deepest condolences. So many memories with your family , especially all of us girls running back and forth between our houses and generally being goofy. Becky was such a hard worker and had such an adventurous, free spirit. I can’t believe it. I have this great photo of her at my mom’s. She has HUGE curlers in her hair and is making a funny face. I will look for it. Much love, Deanna

I was so saddened to hear this tragic news! Becky was my neighbor in Bismarck before she married Dixon. She was part of my core friend group and was known to all as cousin Becky. There were lots of laughs and good times spent together. She was smart & witty with a heart of gold and unwavering love for her son, Logan. Rest in peace dear Becky and sending love and my deepest condolences to you all!

Dear Dixon,
Our community lost a fine lady and neighbor. The last time I visited with her on the phone she was so generous in her offerings of neighborliness and kindness. Though we didn’t talk often she was someone I always felt comfortable with as the feeling you have when you chat with a friend of many years. That is indeed a rare and tremendous attribute.
Our thoughts are with you at this time and I hope good memories of Becky will give you peace, comfort and healing & blessings.
