Rod Cooper, 72, of Ismay, Montana, passed away on February 7, 2014, at RiverStone Hospice House, Billings, Montana.
Rod was born on April 10, 1941, in Baker, Montana, the son of Roy Allen and Lela Ruth (Houzvicka) Cooper. Except for the past few months at RiverStone Hospice House in Billings, he lived and ranched in Fallon County his entire life.
Rod was baptized on January 20, 1942, in the Congregational Christian Church in Baker, Montana. He attended Sunday school and church from 1951 to 1955 at the Congregational Christian Church in Plevna, Montana.
After a few years of homeschooling, Rod attended grade school at Dry Fork District No. 33, and graduated from Baker High School in 1958.
After high school, Rod stayed on the ranch to help his parents. His father passed away in 1976. After his uncle Charles (Charlie) died in 1983, he also helped Aunt Lottie – and later when she became ill, he took her into his home and cared for her until she passed away in 1997. He cared for his mother after she got sick until she passed away in 2006. He liked helping older neighbors when they needed assistance.
Rod was preceded in death by Roy A. and Lela R. Cooper, parents; John F. (Fred) and Mary M. Houzvicka, uncle and aunt; and Charles W. and Lottie V. Houzvicka, uncle and aunt. We were so saddened to hear of Rod’s passing. I (Angie) was raised across the fence from Rod and his family. Whenever you would meet Rod on the road, he always greeted you with a big smile and a friendly wave. Rod loved to visit and whenever you saw him somewhere, he always had time to chat. Out thoughts and prayers are with all of Rod’s family during this difficult time.

My sincere condolences to the family of Rod Cooper – May you find comfort in your loving memories, great pictures and in recalling the many talents of Mr. Cooper. It was not the Creator’s purpose that mankind suffer and die (Romans 5:12). God has promised that a time will come when no one will say “I am sick” (Isaiah 33:24). In the Bible we are promised the resurrection of dear family members and friends that we have lost (John 5:28, 29). I hope you are comforted by Bible promises of a hopeful future (John 17:3).
