Samuel B. “Shorty” Prevette Jr., age 84, of Miles City, Montana passed away on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at the Holy Rosary Hospital in Miles City.
Samuel was born on December 20, 1927 in Couleemee, North Carolina, the son of Samuel Sr. and Julia Creason Prevette. He attended grade school there through the 3rd grade. He lived in Ringgold, Virginia for 65 years and was a truck driver for DanRiver, Inc. there for 43 years. He married Gracie Gauldin on October 26, 1947. Samuel enlisted in the United States Army on December 11, 1945, serving during World War II, and was honorably discharged on June 10, 1947.
Samuel enjoyed fishing, playing golf, and spending time with his family, especially his great grandchildren. He was a true southern gentleman who never said a bad word about anyone, had a great smile, lots of patience and would give the shirt of his back to help others. He was truly the best husband, dad, brother and Pa anyone could ask for.
Samuel is survived by a son, Ray and Denise Prevette of Miles City, MT; a daughter Brenda and Guy Altizer of Floyd, VA; a brother, Johnny Prevette of Alton, VA; three sisters: Ruth Walker of Rocky Mount, VA; Omega Peek of Ringgold, VA; and Linda Lazenby of Oak Island, NC; four grandchildren: Hope Jones, Megan Prevette, Randa Gay and Erica Prevette; and four great grandchildren: Phillip Brooks, Benjamen Jones, John Jones and Samuel Jones. He was preceded in death by four brothers: Paul Prevette, Grady Prevette, Lloyd Prevette and Phillip Prevette; and three sisters: Helen Burnett, Ethel Dalton and Emily Poindexter.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the North Main Street Chapel of Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home in Danville, VA. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, November 18, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the North Main Street Chapel Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home in Danville, VA. Interment will follow in the Floral Hills Memorial Gardens with military honors.
