Sandra “Sandy” Ann O’Brien, 70, of Miles City, MT, peacefully passed away at Holy Rosary Extended Care midday on May 16, 2023.
Sandy was born in Sioux Falls, SD, on November 30, 1952, the only child of Dorothy L. and Earl A. Sevesind.
For most of Sandy’s life, she called Miles City home. Her school years were spent in Miles City where she graduated from Custer County High School in 1971. She attended MCC as part of the nursing program, graduating there in 1973, and earning her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Montana State University-Bozeman in 1974.
Sandy married in December 1975. Four daughters and two sons resulted from this union: Jamie, Kristen, Meghan, Eric, Caitlin, and Steven.
Sandy worked at the hospital in Sidney, MT, for one year beginning in 1974, but she spent most of her career as a nurse at the Custer County Rest Home and Pine Hills Correctional Facility. Sandy opened a small children’s clothing store, Basically Baby, on Main St. in Miles City in the late ‘80s serving the community for several years. On March 11, 1992, she married Jack J. O’Brien and together they welcomed a daughter, Heather, in 1994. Sandy retired from Pine Hills in the late ‘90s and became a full-time caregiver to Jack.
Sandy’s hobbies included shopping from QVC and HSN and planning crafts and organizing her craft room. She loved her label machine. She had an extensive CD and DVD collection, and though she avoided the camera, she was a champion at sorting and labeling pictures of her kids and grandkids. Sandy and Jack loved their Bichons: Shawn, Beau, and Bella, who brought them many years of joy. Before moving into Holy Rosary Extended Care in November 2016, Sandy spent a good deal of time researching her family tree. Genealogy helped her reconnect with several of her family, most of whom lived or live in Minnesota.
Sandy was preceded in death by her mother (Dorothy), father (Earl), and her beloved husband (Jack).
Sandy is survived by her children Jamie (Mark) Teeters of Miles City, Kristen (Richard) Newby of Helena, Meghan (Mark) Brown of Miles City, Eric (Larisa) Jensen of Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho, Caitlin (Buddy) Webster of Billings, Steven (Autumn) O’Brien of Missoula, and Heather O’Brien of New York City, New York, 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and her best friend Edna Jensen, whom she loved like a sister.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Holy Rosary Extended Care staff for the many years of care given to Sandy.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at 10:30 am at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.stevensonandsons.com.
