Troy Gardner, age 54, of Lame Deer, Montana passed away on July 22, 2020. He was born in Crow Agency, Montana on January 5, 1966, a son of William Sr. and Evelyn Gardner.
He was a high school graduate of St. Labre Indian School. He also attended Chief Dull Knife College and Billings Business College. Troy’s Cheyenne name was Voe’stahámo’ohtavaestse, “Black Crane”.
Troy enjoyed playing high school basketball and he continued to play in independent basketball tournaments. Troy worked as a laborer and would do odd jobs around the family ranch. Growing up, he loved working with the horses and training them. Despite his own personal struggles, Troy was known for his kindness, friendliness, and love for people. He was always helping people, even if it was his last dollar. He was a professing Christian and loved the word of God and always would share his faith with everyone. We will miss our son, brother, uncle, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend.
Troy is survived by his mother, Evelyn Gardner of Lame Deer, MT; brothers, Stuart (Tanya) Gardner of Lame Deer, MT, Warren (Lydia) Wolfblack of Pablo, MT.; sisters, Wilma (Albert Jr.) LaRance of Billings, MT., Lucy Gardner of Phoenix, AZ., and Ingrid Gardner of Alamogordo, NM.; nieces and nephews, Loren Jr. (Allison) Bighorn, Ben Sr. (Eva) Bighorn, Jerae and Elishah LaRance, Isaac, Isaiah, Samson, Micah, Michala Gardner, Tristan and Lynnie David, and Kirk Hill; grandchildren, Hayden, Madison, Nashon, Wesley, Natt Lee, Ben Jr., Keoni, Kyrie, Amanda Bighorn, LaRaya Whiteman; great-grandson, Amari Rae Bighorn; special friends, Monte Larson of Bend, OR., Woodrow Blackwolf of Lame Deer, MT., Ronnie Littlehead of Lame Deer, MT. Troy had many friends, too many to mention. Please forgive us if we did not mention your name.
Troy is preceded in death by his father, William Gardner Sr.; brother, William Jr.; sisters, Agatha Stanton; Philomena, Ava, and Delores Gardner.
